This is a "real" castle, with thick walls, narrow passages and a long history. It gives you a distinct medieval feeling, although it also served different functions into modern times, as prison, for instance. Apart from the buildings, there are some exhibitions, guided tours and a video show. As the castle has so long a history parts of it have... More

It's amazing castle and museum. You can walk in every room and through tiny corridors. It is restored very good. It shows parts of the medieval life in Finland and it is just interesting. 1 hour well spent. Why not spend 1 hour while walking near the beautiful lake in Haemeenlinna.

Nice castle, was very quiet when we visited. Lots of interesting segments in the castle to visit and informative.

One the best castles in the Finland, but going there is such a big disappointment. The castle is restored very good and it is in good shape, but imagine: such a big castle with white rooms full of nothing. Yeah, the rooms are practically empty. Couple rooms contain some coins and pictures, but that is all. Otherwise it is white... More

This castle is a gem, really. It is very well restored and gives a good insight to the life in medieval Finland. The location is also very beautiful in the middle of a park an surrounded by the lake Vanaja.

Hämeenlinna is named after Häme Castle, a nice castle by the Lake Vanaja with exhibitions and local museums. It hosts local fairs in Xmas time, usually both before and after, and also Easter time, and in the summer, usually in mid August there is Medieval Fair event in the surrounding park. Castle is nice as it is, but even nicer... More

Nice castle to see and visit. It is one of the few really old structures/buildings in Finland. Of course the whole castle is not that old, but it has been started to build on 13th century. The castle has been restaured and you can visit quite freely in it. There is also a room dedicated for kids for some related... More

We really anjoyed our visit to the Castle. You can get guide in paper in French when you ask to the reception (charming lady). However, inside we were a bit disapointed as the modernity has nothing to do with the castle itself. There is a room for children really interesting and cleverly done. You can eat in the café for... Despite its fairly unimpressive appearance and small size this is in my mind a very interesting historical attraction. Its precise origins are unknown, but it is from the 13th or the 14th century. Originally built from stone and expanded with bricklaid structures it is the oldest brickwork castle in Finland. During its long history and the changing borders of Swedish... More

While fairly impressive from a distance, up close this castle is not terribly interesting. Also annoying is the lack of signage to make the (self-guided) tour intuitive in the maze of rooms. Most of the signs that do exist are not in English (although they will loan out an English translation guide).
