Owner description: Winner of 4 Western Australian Tourism Awards including Ecotourism in 2009. Donnelly River cruises is an award-winning experience not to be missed. Operating daily, with bus pick-ups also available from Pemberton and Manjimup, Donnelly River Cruises conducts a river cruise of the lower twelve-kilometre section of the Donnelly River, within the confines of the D’Entrecasteaux National Park, in the South West of Western Australia. The cruise area, including the beach landing, encompasses an area that is not accessible by 4-wheel drive and is only accessible by boat. The atmosphere of the cruise is to “sit back, relax and enjoy” as you meander through the diversified eco systems of the river. In a conversational format where you are encouraged to join in, Peter & Shaun will enlighten you about the river, the ecology and geology of the area, the fauna and flora and some of the history of the area. The scenery is constantly changing as you commence in lush Jarrah and Marri forests, and then pass through the Paperbark and wetlands, past the limestone cliffs, to the majestic Southern Ocean. On the way you will cruise past the unique holiday huts nestled amongst the towering Marri trees and coastal dunes. While at the mouth of the river, you are given the opportunity to disembark and experience the isolation and pristine quality of the area, with a walk along the beach for about half an hour. The beach is approximately 2 km long confined by rocky outcrops at each end with no vehicle access at all. You are able to stroll along the soft white beaches in virtual isolation except for possibly a few locals trying their hand at some beach fishing. After toe tapping with the Southern Ocean, you will make your way back to the boat where you begin the return journey with a morning or afternoon tea complimented by Pete’s “fantastic” muffins. There is no one photo to depict this amazing cruise!!!

We spent the morning on the Donnelley River cruise with Peter as our Captain and guide (a well spent $65.00 per person & a must do) The river was running very fast after all the rain, so our Captain had a bit of work to do. Peter was very informative & knowledgeable Great scenery and time well spent. A highlight... More

The trip was great, very informative and Peter was a delight. He truely knew his stuff! The cruise was lovely with tea/coffee provided, the boat in enclosed with wall to wall windows and a clear ceiling so you can get a great view from every angle. We went in winter so it was realy good to have the boat enclosed.... More

The perfect balance between imparting knowledge of the river and its environment without disturbing the relaxation and enjoyment. All the passengers our day were Western Australians but we all learnt a lot about the river we did not know before. Peter was an excellent guide. The half way point is a desolate beach on the Southern Ocean. What as contrast... More

Delightful cruise down this beautiful and special (you'll have to do the Donnelly River Cruise to find out why it's special) river. Peter, our bus driver, ship captain, tour guide and tea 'lady', was very passionate about the environment and therefore very knowledgeable. His combination of facts, quizzes and the occasional trick thrown in to keep us on our toes,... More

Fantastic and relaxing cruise down one of our pristine river environments. Our local tour guide Shaun was great and very informative, and showed a passion for his local area and environment which made the day trip even more personally enjoyable. Highly recommended trip for all visitors to the area.

Visiting Perth and the South West, from London, UK, my wife and I, joined by a friend from Perth, had the pleasure of taking this delightful cruise, skippered by Pete. He made the 'Australian Bush' and this unique waterway come alive. His knowledge, passion for, and story telling of, the region made what was already a nice trip into one... More
