Visited on a rainy day. We all liked the gaol, even the children, especially the cells! The museum was also very informative though didn't hold the children's interest for long. The old school house held their interest a bit as it had games outside to try. That is the only interactive part though.

This old Gaol has been very carefully restored and this adds to the charm and interest for tourists. It is a very small prison so doesn't take long to pass through, but it has a very colourful history and some interesting stories about former inmates. If you like such history, it is definitely worth seeing.

I visited the old Gaol in Albany over the Easter weekend with my teenage and young adult children. We went on the night tour. We all found it an extremely interesting and enjoyable experience and highly recommend it when touring Albany. The tour guides John and Joy were lovely and had a great understanding of the history of the Gaol... More

we visited the Old Goal & I have to tell you we were amazed. The Old Goal restoration & information is fantastic. The Anzac photos, information & display is stunning & very moving. We were very impressed at the work done to restore & present such an important part of Albany & Australian history. Thank you for the experience.

Right in town, next to the Museum and close to the Brig Amity, the Old Gaol is a peek into the past, a little like time travel as you step into this small, atmospheric jailhouse from the time of the first settlers and prisoners. very interesting stories about the people who were brought here and eventually settled in the area... Ticket is for 2 museums: (1) The Old Gaol (Jail) gives an idea of the living conditions and work undertaken by prisioners at the time of the establishment of Albany. The building is great to explore. Take a night tour to be "Spooked" (2) Patrick Taylor Cottage- kids like the "old house and furnishings" A good display of pioneer household... More

Get a chance to learn about the history of the gaol and enter some of the cells. Some I interesting inmates as well including ' so they say' a character who could have been Jack The Ripper.

For a $5 entry fee you can explore all around the jail and read the plaques describing various pieces while using your paper guide to learn more. Pretty interesting to go back in time to a different era. It's next to the WA Museum and the Brig Amity. The guy at the desk is happy to provide additional info and... More
