Benalla is blessed with a lovely Botanic Garden - we enjoyed our break there during a journey up the Hume Highway. Some great old trees, a picturesque cricket ground and a nice walk around the lake - we would recommend it as a break in your journey. Afterwards we'd also recommend a trip to the Main Street Cafe in Bridge...

The gardens at Benalla are pleasant all year round, but exceptionally beautiful in November/December when all the roses are in bloom and perfume fills the air. Also of interest is the statue of Weary Dunlop and another war hero (whose name escapes me) both originally from this area.

A pleasant place to while away half an hour en route to Sydney from Melbourne.
You can enjoy a drink or snack at the adjacent art gallery.
