While visiting the KI information center, the clerk there was initially positive about this venue. When pressed for more information, she recanted and admitted that the colony of Penguins that (used to be) there, have not been seen of late. In a nutshell, they are all but gone. We appreciated her candor with us. As it turned out we visited... More

This attraction is closed as the seals have eaten all the Penguins! You can wak down to the wharf and see seals but naturalists are in the process of relocating them!

Unfortunately, due to the excess NZ Fur Seals, there are no longer any penguins left to see. There is pelican feeding nearby, $5 per person although no sign to indicate this

Sorry to say it was lovely seeing the pelicans being fed and to hear the commentary but the attitude of the presenter was nothing short of arrogant. Spoilt the visit. He was very rude to some people standing outside of the barriers.

You wait for the birds to come in from the surf, but with no flash allowed, you can’t get any good pictures. Be prepared for the smell! It might be worse depending on the heat and the wind, but the closer you are to the penguins the more it smells bad. The interpretive centre was interesting and they have a... More

Well it wasn't in operation any longer. There are a few fenced off walk ways which you can go on and look for them but truthfully there where just wooden boxes for the penguins. But I don't think any or at least many had or have been used. Walked along the area several times and different times. But alas I... More

I went to there with my boy(2yo). Feeding was nice, but talk and waiting time was a bit long for kids. so we couldn't stay there till last. And we couldn't see any penguins there. I heard just 5 penguins now.

What more can I say? Several attractions on KI are temporarily closed, but I think that means permantely. This attraction has really closed down according to the pamphlet from the visitors centre and what's more when you go past the building you can see that it has been cleared out.
