The Shute Harbour township and harbour are the gateway to getting out to the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. There is reasonable accommodation and dining while you are there, and is a launching point for various trips and tours in the region.

While we were disappointed that the marina was "dead", it is still worth the drive to look at the view from the walk up the hill. No opportunity to buy any refreshments anymore. Such a shame.

It has been a while since we have had a beach holiday. The weather was good to us. We had a great time on the reef cruise and on the Jet ski tour. we will be coming back soon.

We stayed at Flametree Caravan Park so that we were close to the boat ramp. With boat ramp etiquette this ramp worked well and the harbour itself held no problems for us. Parking would be the only issue, but it was a busy time.

As a frequent visitor to this area over the past 40 years I saw Shute Harbour grow into a major tourist hub as it became the jump off point for almost all of the Whitsunday tours. As these have now mostly relocated to Port of Airlie and Able Point Marina - which is more convenient, there's not much at Shute... More

Hire a car and went and had a look see at what the location is about. Is the location for all the skydiving and the lie, very hard to miss that location with the small seaplane parked out front. Tourism value is very poor, but a great location if you need to moor your boat as its a very protected... More

Not somewhere set up for day visitors-limited shopping and eating options.Steep narrow roads around and through it. The harbour with yachts is a pretty photo shot

shute harbour, what can you say? it is the gateway for charters to and from the reef and islands and for barges taking good to the islands. Fishermen use the harbour also for their gateway to crabbing and fishing inshore. if you are visiting just to sight see the times to be here are sunrise and sunset when the colours... More

Unless you are here to get a rental yacht or boat, there's nothing to do around. No shops, no restaurants, no cafes... Just lots of boats. Drive up the hill though for a nice lookout, it does look great from above (otherwise, there are stairs at the far corner of the car park). Ah, there's a little BBQ area at... More
