Lake Argyle was created in 1971, by damming the mighty Ord River, forming a storage reservoir to supply one of this country's largest and most ambitious irrigation schemes. What was once "Argyle Downs", a million acre cattle station, is now an immense body of water amid a largely untamed and rugged wildernessin the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Aptly named "Lake Argyle", this majestic waterway can at times encompass an area of more than 2000km2, a volume equivalent to 54 Sydney Harbours. With its ever changing moods and landscapes it has developedinto a unique eco system, home to an amazing array of wildlife. There is no better way to capture all of this outstanding beauty than to take a cruise with Lake Argyle Cruises. We offer a selection of tours catering for the individual traveller as well as large tour groups. Specialisedcharters such as bird watching, bush walking and exploration can be arranged with prior notice.

This tour was an amazing, interesting & fun time. Staff Captain Jack, guide Josh & hostess Sarah made this adventure a blast. Service was second to none, Josh's knowledge of the area was actually interesting & delivered with great humour. Lunch was absolutely wonderful & floating in the beautiful waters of the lake with drink in hand was an experience... More

"It was Amazing" (quote). Fabulous staff. Incredible scenery. Wonderful wildlife and scenery. Swimming in the lake with a noodle and a glass of champagne was a highlight.

Our host, Greg, was down to earth and had lighted hearted humour to compliment his strong knowledge on the inception of the lake and much more. It was a pleasure to be part of the experience and to be encouraged to enjoy it all. The sighting of the Jabirus was the cherry to it all. We hIghly recommend using lake... More

Our stay at Lake Argyle culminated in a great afternoon and sunset cruise. Ferried by bus from the camping ground we even got a commentary from the bus driver. This carried on with the 2 young blokes on the boat. We had a good look around and saw quite a lot of wild life including plenty of the biggest freshwater... More

This cruise explains why this lake was built, it shows you some of natures benefits to having this much water trapped in the middle of the desert. Wildlife in abundance around the lake. The bonus was a sunset swim in a lake 21 times the size of Sydney harbour and filled with 25,000 fresh water crocodiles. Then relax and have... More

We recently had the pleasure of going on a Lake Argyle sunset cruise. We were picked up from the caravan park and taken out to Lake Argyle by minibus and from there to the boat site. We found the boat to be comfortable and the skipper Greg (I think) to be very informative and entertaining. We really enjoyed the experience... More

We were picked up from van park by bus at 1pm for the 70km trip to the boat. Wil(?) gave great commentary all the way, very knowledgable. The cruise itself was fantastic. I was in awe at the size of the lake. We stopped regularly to see wallabies and crocodiles and to feed the fish. Matt (or was it Greg?)... More

We did the Kimberley Durack Sunset Cruise and it was just fabulous. Cruising Lake Argyle was very relaxing, despite lots of passengers with the staff working very hard to ensure there were new things to see every 10 mins or so. Swimming in the lake was a hoot - steps from the boat suitable for oldies and the water was... More

Yet another very professional outfit providing a great service. Kiwi Josh collected us all from the resort and drove us by bus to the boat landing where we were met by Tracy the skipper. Josh provided us with lots of info about the building of the dam, the immensity of the lake, the geology, flora and fauna. However the piece... More
