Owner description: Lake Argyle was created in 1971, by damming the mighty Ord River, forming a storage reservoir to supply one of this country's largest and most ambitious irrigation schemes. What was once "Argyle Downs", a million acre cattle station, is now an immense body of water amid a largely untamed and rugged wildernessin the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Aptly named "Lake Argyle", this majestic waterway can at times encompass an area of more than 2000km2, a volume equivalent to 54 Sydney Harbours. With its ever changing moods and landscapes it has developedinto a unique eco system, home to an amazing array of wildlife. There is no better way to capture all of this outstanding beauty than to take a cruise with Lake Argyle Cruises. We offer a selection of tours catering for the individual traveller as well as large tour groups. Specialisedcharters such as bird watching, bush walking and exploration can be arranged with prior notice.

I love the lilt of the Irish voicing "...to watch the sun go down o'er Galway Bay..." I've not been there and am not likely to now but there are a few magical spots in this great big country I call " home " that I've got to share with someone, and I'd love that someone, to be you. We're... More

On a spur of the moment we had a very nice late afternoon/evening on the Sunset Cruise. We booked through the Kununurra Country Club and were picked up for our tour out to the dam via the old Durack homestead museum before joining the cruise. Excellent commentary and cruise facilities made for a really nice evening. We had the full... More

Our last minute, spur of the moment decision proved to be the right one as we took a six hour cruise with Lake Argyle Cruises. These guys have the right balance between efficient professionalism and relaxed Kimberly life style. Matt was knowledgable, friendly and welcoming as was the team in the office. The lake itself is a must see if... More

We did a Sunset Cruise with Matt last week. His knowledge of the lake and wild life is unrivalled. During our tour on the beautiful boat, Matt described the history of the lake in detail that only comes with 8 years in the job. There was a multitude of wildlife to see and again Matt's knowledge of the bird and... More

Matt and Greg hosted a great afternoon out on the lake. Matt is a wealth of knowledge on the lake, the wildlife and the area generally. Do yourself a favour and hire a canoe to do some solo exploring. You'll then get a shot at jumping off a rock ledge into the lake from heights of 10 to 15 meters.... More

Thank you for your kind comments. It's great to hear you enjoyed the sunset cruise - we do have highly experienced guides. It's also fantastic that you took advantage of the canoe hire and had fun at jump rock! More

Visitors to Australia should try and include the Kimberley region of North West Australia. The colours are magnificent, the skies so blue. Our Sunset cruise on the amazing man-made Lake Argyle included four hours of amazing colour, vanishing horizons and many freshwater crocodiles. The Sunset was pretty good too.

My partner and I did a sunset cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had the best of everything- a fabulous guide-Greg- with over 15yrs experience- telling us about the history of the lake, the wildlife and surrounding areas. We cooled off with a sunset swim and beer and champagne. Make sure you book the cruise that is separate from the... More

We did the sunset cruise and it was a memorable experience. The skipper, Matt, was one of the best tour guides I have come across. Matt was very friendly and gave a great account about Lake Argyle and its history.
