What was once "Argyle Downs", a million acre cattle station, is now an immense body of water amid a largely untamed and rugged wildernessin the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia. Aptly named "Lake Argyle", this majestic waterway can at times encompass an area of more than 2000km2, a volume equivalent to 54 Sydney Harbours. With its ever changing moods and landscapes it has developedinto a unique eco system, home to an amazing array of wildlife. There is no better way to capture all of this outstanding beauty than to take a cruise with Lake Argyle Cruises. We offer a selection of tours catering for the individual traveller as well as large tour groups. Specialisedcharters such as bird watching, bush walking and exploration can be arranged with prior notice. « less

We did a Sunset Cruise with Matt last week. His knowledge of the lake and wild life is unrivalled. During our tour on the beautiful boat, Matt described the history of the lake in detail that only comes with 8 years in the job. There was a multitude of wildlife to see and again Matt's knowledge of the bird and... More

Matt and Greg hosted a great afternoon out on the lake. Matt is a wealth of knowledge on the lake, the wildlife and the area generally. Do yourself a favour and hire a canoe to do some solo exploring. You'll then get a shot at jumping off a rock ledge into the lake from heights of 10 to 15 meters.... More

Thank you for your kind comments. It's great to hear you enjoyed the sunset cruise - we do have highly experienced guides. It's also fantastic that you took advantage of the canoe hire and had fun at jump rock! More

Visitors to Australia should try and include the Kimberley region of North West Australia. The colours are magnificent, the skies so blue. Our Sunset cruise on the amazing man-made Lake Argyle included four hours of amazing colour, vanishing horizons and many freshwater crocodiles. The Sunset was pretty good too.

My partner and I did a sunset cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had the best of everything- a fabulous guide-Greg- with over 15yrs experience- telling us about the history of the lake, the wildlife and surrounding areas. We cooled off with a sunset swim and beer and champagne. Make sure you book the cruise that is separate from the... More

We did the sunset cruise and it was a memorable experience. The skipper, Matt, was one of the best tour guides I have come across. Matt was very friendly and gave a great account about Lake Argyle and its history.

We did the 2 hour morning cruise that departed at 8am. The office is a short walk from the Lake Argyle Resort. $70 per person. Matt our guide was very knowledgeable about the areas history, wildlife and other local attractions and was able to answer all questions. A beautiful cruise on a stunning Lake and we had a lot of... Having done the wonderful sunset cruise with Greg from Lake Argyle Cruises previously and thoroughly enjoyed it, this time we opted for a canoeing experience instead to balance up some of the pancakes consumed earlier! With a friend we headed off to the Lake Argyle Cruises office to pick up our life jackets, paddles and a map before heading down... More

We did the sunset cruise with Matt, starts at 2.30 pm and finishes about 6pm Matt takes guests to various sites on the Lake where you will see rock wallabies, fresh water crocodiles and the most amazing scenery I have come across. Lake Argyl is a massive body of water stretching as far as the eye can see, surrounded by... More

Of course the surface of Lake Argyle was barely wind ruffled as we cruised across it in the open boat. But the uncanny part was knowing we were metres above where the Ord River once flowed between banks way below us.What we saw as islands were once the peaks of nearby hills. We saw rock wallabies, photographed freshwater crocodiles, and... More

My husband and I did the evening tour yesterday (2.30 to after sunset) with Greg as coach driver and Matt as tour guide on the lake. Matt's knowledge of Lake Argyle in terms of its history, geography, local wildlife, vegetation...everything... is very impressive. (He would be my phone-a-friend on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire). This, plus his good sense... More
