Arrowtown was a pleasant surprise and delight. It was recommended by a cab driver, so we decided to take the public bus to it one afternoon and the bus drivers were very helpful with the transfers and stops. The town has been beautifully restored with lovely quality shops and restaurants - the best shops we found anywhere in NZ. We... More

It was a peaceful little town, not many shops but still kept us entertained the whole morning. We enjoyed the variety of items sold in the shops, and the eateries. Not far from town is the Arrow River which we visited with a 4WD trip and we loved it.

I was so surprised how nice this is. All outdoor walking. Many shops and cafes and places to hang out. My best cappuccino was at a place by the park in this shopping area.

Worth the short drive out to Arrowtown for lunch and a walk around the smaller loop walk (4.2km . along the river) Free parking or very cheap in some places, free maps, friendly people. What isn't to love about NZ ( take note, England!

Beautifully reminiscent of the gold rush era with a wide central street and attractive shops and cafes on either side. Although I am sure it wasn't as genteel then.

Like many historic towns with a rebirth, Arrowtown relies on the tourist dollar. So lots of places to help tourists be parted with their cash. Lots of shops in historic buildings, selling a wide range of what looked like high quality merchandise. But ignoring the shopping and the tourist crowds, the Main Street, Buckingham street, is delightful, with gorgeous trees... More

A small town with plenty of interest and history. Very much like the old gold mining towns in the USA. Plenty of good walks and shops to browse. You can even pan for gold in the arrow river. Well worth a days visit, plenty of free parking restaurants and eating places.

This is nice place: little shops, eateries, cute architecture, but nothing really special or different from other places like for example Nantucket, MA. I can imagine that the colored leaves of the old trees would make a great difference in the fall, though.
