Love this temple!! It was so quite and peaceful. Beautiful garden setting and view of the small town of mae salong. You can take the hundreds of steps up to the temple or rent a motorbike and take the road. Hill tribe woman and children sell trinkets out in front.

Go for the view - any time of the day is great! If you have a car, you don't need to climb the 700plus steps and it becomes an easy visit -- you can park right next to the Wat at the very top. Very near the border with Myanmar and Laos. The fascinating little town of Mae Salong is... More

While visiting Doi Mae Salong village, we could see the temple on the top of the mountain, and so decided to ride up there to have a look. When we arrived at the lower temple, we parked and walked up the 1000 or so stairs (not realising that there is a road all the way to the top temple). It's... More

A Mae Salong itinerary should definitely include this temple. As so many other temples in Thailand, this one too is located above its surroundings, on top of a mountain. The 360 view of Mae Salong and other peaks makes the relative "struggle" to get up there worthwhile. After a challenging and enjoyable drive on steep, winding roads, stopping here is... More

If you've made the wise choice to visit Mae Salong, then don't miss out. The 719 steps to the top are a challenge but the view is absolutely spectacular. Go near the end of the day so the village is highlighted from behind for best pictures. And be sure to go up one level inside the structure at the top.... More

If you are in Mae Salong, just take the path of the temple, enter it and get to the stairs. You'll have the best view around from the 2nd floor :-) The temple itself is... well just a temple.

We took a three day tour from Chiang Rai and enjoyed chilling in this attractive little Chinese-flavoured hill town. We climbed to the temple for great views and played on the wooden swing/ trapeze thing on the way down. Mostly we enjoyed being away from the hustle and bustle, the little bakeries and walking around. Apparently a lot of people... More

We rented motorbikes in Chiang Rai and made the journey up here. We accidently overshot the turnoff for Mae Salong by almost an hour and ended up in Thaton. We're glad we did because Wat Thaton was one of the most amazing, beautiful temples I've seen in Thailand (300+). Anyways, we circled around and finally made it up to Mae... More
