What an amazing experience! Beautiful sandstone buildings - and quaint shopping precinct! And we had a little bit of mist to add to the setting the morning we were there - just added a more majestical ambiance. The shops were great (some I thought a little expensive for locals), but just amazing! Beautiful park for the kids .... and we... More

this old part of Oamaru is a walk back in time. There is so much thought and time spent in re inventing this part and the locals are very proud of their heritage. The local dress up in old costume to create the atmosphere. Market on sun is great fun and very relaxed to mooch around.

We just had a quick visit to the Victorian Precinct and we would loved more time. Stop in at the book-binders - it is a must! I'd plan to have dinner there, too - the whisky place looked great, but as I said, we didn't have enough time.

Full of fantastic creative energy on foundations of fluted finials and sculptured stones Friendly Bay playground is good for a stop with older kids.

The area has been beautifully restored and the shops are interesting. Only wish they made it pedestrian only, hard to look fpr cars while taking photos and crisscrossing the road.

Loved the whole area. Great for a wander and some interesting history. Afternoon was marred by an exceptionally rude baker at the Dutch Bakery. Abused us as South Africans and told us he was closed and yet served the next person walking in.

I absolutely LOVED this place ! And found so many bargains and quirky stuff ! The buildings are absolutely stunning and the shops there are quite different. There are some awesome book shops if that interests you. I would highly recommend this place ! It's not on the main road so make sure you find it and visit ... and... More

Huge and atmospheric spaces for hugely creative artists. It was the best gallery area I have ever visited.

Gorgeous buildings filled with eclectic galleries and craft shops. See a limestone craftman at work, have a walk around a most, erm varied gallery, or peruse the vintage comics. Not sure if I'm selling it well, but you can definitely spend an afternoon immersing yourself in the treats that surround you.
