We walked inside to see the building and were allowed to visit all the rooms by our own. It is a beautiful building and the staff at the reception is very friendly. Thanks for the free postcards.

Anyone who enjoys old theatres would enjoy exploring this old gem. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, stop by and check it out!

Then we visited the i-site for information to be told yes you can do tours there and they are open. Upon getting that advice eventually which... More

I haven't been to a show here, but I always go for a coffee when I am in Oamaru, which is often. For the same price as anywhere else, and less than some places, you can relax in a comfortable armchair or sofa in this great building. Excellent service and great coffee.

Went to a couple of shows here last year - fabulous building, beautifully restored. Worth leaving your seat at half-time to admire the architectural details and to get a yummy treat!

Opposite the Opera House at 119 Thames Street Oamaru is a very different attraction however when your partner, who runs a dressmaking academy spends nearly three hours in 'seventh heaven' and bought too much material to add to our luggage ( $50 postage sent it on the way to Australia) you know you have found an untapped attraction for this lovely... Clearly the pride and joy of Oamaru's civic culture, the Opera House runs a box office, bar and cafe. Mainstream theatre shows that tend to be on the expensive side give the impression of an under-utilised facility. But if you save up for a special night out, the Opera House will deliver.
