The trip up the stairs is well worth it, a gallery full of quirky and interesting art from the district and more as well as Donna's own work. Great browsing.

Situated in the Victorian area of Oamaru, the Grainstore Gallery is the result of the creative artist Donna Demente's endless imagination. She has filled this fairy tale place with papier mâché masks, some small, others are enormous, and wonderful Renaissance style paintings. If you have ever wanted to see a huge paper mâché sculpture of Queen Victoria, complete with crown... More

Don't miss this attraction: the building itself is the star! (But the art is pretty good too!) This was a real highlight of my visit to Oamaru

Follow a sign on the street and enter an airy hideaway filled to the rafters with a range of romantic and surreal art. MUST SEE! Worth climbing the flights of stairs, trust me. Items range from $5 to $5000. I'll be back to buy some art.

This is a gem of an odd gallery, with faces everywhere. always fun and welcoming. We were allowed to wear some papier mache bird heads and it was like dropping into a friend's house while they are having a party.

Three lots of stairs to get to the top. Some very interesting work by Donna Dementhe and other artists. I liked the subjects with different eyes. Different!

Got really bad vibes in this place and couldn't wait to exit. Quite weird stuff in here. Didn't really enjoy this one.

The Historic Precinct in Oamaru is spectacular and unique. The access to the gallery is by an old, worn staircase against the whitestone blocks laid by Italian stonemasons when the grainstore and other parts of the precinct were built long ago. I had a wonderful time quietly and unhurriedly browsing through the gallery and was delighted to find artworks by... More

Full of quirky, very creative and imaginative people, this old grainstore is not what you would expect to find in a rural New Zealand centre..the whole Precinct area is wonderful and I can see why international movie makers use it so often.
