Freedom III is a comfortable 58ft power catamaran which operates ¾ day whale watch cruises from the Great Sandy Straits Marina in Urangan Harbour. Departing at 9:30 and returning at 3pm allows you plenty of time with the awe-inspiring humpback whales in Platypus Bay. The cruise along pristine Fraser Island’s western beaches can offer sightings of dingoes, schooling fish and numerous sea birds. Expert commentary by our knowledgeable skipper will keep you entertained as well as DVD’s on the plasma TV. Colouring activities and soft toys will keep the children amused and if they are tired we have 3 double beds. Home-baked morning tea, tropical buffet lunch as well as fruit and cheese platters for the return trip are all included as well as tea, coffee, water and soft drinks all day. With maximum passenger numbers of 45 and three levels of viewing your whale watch experience will be memorable, informative and uncrowded.

There are numerous whale watching tours operating out of Hervey Bay in Queensland, Australia. Some are shorter and faster, some are longer and slower. One of the best is Freedom, taking guests out on a 58' catamaran to see humpback whales between mid-July to the third week in October. We like this tour because they sincerely love to show people... This is a must do when you're in Queensland/Hervey Bay! What an amazing day it was! We saw Tons of whales and I got to take some great pictures of the whales breaching. The whales come pretty close to the boat aswell and even swim under the boat. Such an amazing experience never to forget! It was funny that I... More

So pleased you had such a wonderful experience on board Freedom III. Sorry you were the only backpacker but every day is different and not all travellers have a whole day to spend on the water with the whales. Hope to see you again in the future for more fantastic wildlife encounters, safe travels. More

We booked with Freedom on the recommendation of friends who visit Hervey Bay each year, and were very pleased with the choice. We made a booking in advance as it was peak season, but as we were driving up from Tasmania without much time to spare, were concerned that any delays might make us miss the booking. I was thrilled... More

Thank-you Tassie travellers! We are happy to hear you thoroughly enjoyed your day with the friendly whales. It is always great to hear of fellow Aussies enjoying the adventures in other states as we really enjoyed our Tassie adventure. Hope to welcome you on board Freedom III again soon. More

We really liked the boat, the commentary was really interesting, the whales were outstanding & upon complete exhaustion our 3yo slept on a nice comfy bed on the top deck after lunch while our 7yo saw more whales, dolphins, and played with other kids. This was a real highlight of our 2 month Australia trip - tail fins, pectoral slaps... More

Thanks for your fabulous review Adam. It is always pleasing to hear that people with young ones enjoy their day. The wheelhouse bed does come in very handy! Catch you next time you are in the east. More

Friendly professional crew. Magnificent food. Amenities were clean. Plenty of space to roam or watch whales. Skipper was very proficient in finding whales. Would definitely go whale watching with this team again!!

We did this on the 16th October 2014 - Captain Keith and his crew were awesome, looked after us all so well. The boat is a really good size, not too big and you can go anywhere on it. A very personal experience. Good food as well. Keith knew exactly where to go and what to do to give us... More

This was my 2nd time on Freedom whale watching. What the crew will do not to make your day memorable is NOTHING. I went later in the season so lots of mother and calves about 6 pods in all. Would recommend earlier about july august if you want to see the bigger whales and adolescents or later sept october for... More

A great day on a great family owned business. We had 40 people on board which was the maximum they take and it felt like we were the only ones with the whales. Great friendly and helpful staff who provided great lunch and snacks. Such great value for money. Would love to do again. Thank you captain Keith.

Loved this outing. Perfect sized boat, takes 47 but on our trip last Friday we only had 31 so ideal for moving around and taking photos. The crew were fantastic, lots of laughs and extremely competent and personable. Ours was a 3/4 day trip (9.30am - 3.30pm) but the skipper was happy to meander longer amongst the whales. The morning... More

Windy day at the end of the season, but the crew tried everything to get us whales to watch. Saw three mother and calf pods including a breach, tail flips and a head slap. Food was very good - 3 meats and 3 salads at lunchtime with bread rolls. Plenty for all. Profiteroles and scones at am tea. Fruit and... More
