We called to book on the morning we left Christchurch to go to Kaikoura. We were thrilled to get on the Albatross encounter and moreso to find out we were the only ones on the trip. We had to pay a little more per person but it was well worth it in the end. The Albatross is a stunning bird,... More

Our Albatross Encounter boat trip was one of the highlights of our visit to New Zealand. It was incredible to come face to face with these amazing birds. The staff were incredibly friendly and our trip leader was very knowledgeable.

What a fantastic trip spending time with such majestic birds. We saw six different species of Albatross. The crew were awesome and very knowledgeable. I now have lots of photos to sort through!

An amazing trip that we booked the previous day. As we had 2 discount coupons it was a 10% less for the 2 of us. The girls at the centre are very efficient. The cafe and shop is good .You can have your breakfast before you start. Then on to a bus that takes you to a small pier where a... More

Our wonderful trip planner said "Not sure you can see whales - I never have, not sure you can see dolphins - I have once or twice, but birds NOT A PROBLEM!" This is exactly what happened! We had a wonderful boat ride off the coast of New Zealand at Kaikoura and the birds joined us about 10 minutes out.... More

Thursday 27th February: We departed Christchurch at 5.00am and it took 2.5 hours to drive north to Kaikoura through patches of fog but on an empty road. We found the Encounter Kaikoura centre and had a marvelous fried breakfast there after checking in for the albatross encounter boat trip. We had booked months in advance at http://www.albatrossencounter.co.nz/ for the 2.5... More

An amazing trip with a very knowledgeable guide named Garry. He has lots of experience and knows the birds and the area well. I went on the afternoon trip and although not a huge number of birds there were a great variety to be seen. Also managed to fit in a side trip to a seal colony as well. The... More

This trip is fantastic because you get to see these impressive birds, and other species, so closely. They are, literally, within touching distance at the rear and side of the boat. Gary, the guide and skipper, was very enthusiastic and happy to share his knowledge about the birds with us. We also saw dolphins and seals on the trip. The... More

Second time. For those with serious BIF (photographing birds in flight) ambitions or those just wanting to see these beautiful birds up close this excursion is second to none. I took some 600 shots and got some excellent photographs out of my trip. Also saw Dolphins and many other sea birds. If you like wildlife this excursion is not to... More
