very nice hosts. You might need to wait depending on the number of people available. The aircraft itself is small but it is quite well suited to viewing things in the water. The flight was quiet stable for us and had lesser motion issues than on the boat in the water. The chance to get to see the whole animal... More

One of the best trips I've done in NZ and an awesome way to see the whales. I've done whale watching from a boat before, but I must say, flying is an even better way. Of course you are never sure if you'll see a whale, but from the plane you spot them so fast (much faster than from a... More

Whale watching is one of the must-do´s in New Zealand. There are several options to realize this chance: Boat, Plane, Helicopter. We decided to look after the whales with a plane and are 100% happy with this decision. We saw two sperm whales and lots of dolphins and I also was allowed to steer the plane for a short time.... Was very lucky to be able to spot a whale and thoroughly enjoyed the viewing from the plane! Pilot was nice to enough to fetch me from town and drop me back after the flight. Also got to steer the plane a little bit - exciting! Enjoyed my time with them, highly recommended. Go for the combo!

We considered all options and took this flight with lot of excitement. We did see a sperm whale and dolphin pod too. However, we found the view to be highly superficial. There were lots of Dolphins but were hardly visible. Even the whale looked too small. We had a good pair of binoculars too but it wasn't very helpful as... More

Worth it!!!!highly recommended….We paid NZ$145pp, saw 2 sperm whales and 1 blue whale today and school of dusky dolphins…the weather is perfect, calm and sunny! The Pilot is friendly and helpful. We learned a lot.

We dropped in by coincidence on our way to the city of Kaikoura. One hour after we were sitting in their plane flying across the ocean. Fortunately there was one whale who was about to descent to show off his back fin. Two boats where down there too... The chances to see a whale are more than 90%. If you... More

We booked this trip as we thought it would be a better option than the boat as you'd be able to see the whales from above and get a perspective of their size. In hindsight, I think we would have preferred the boat. We made our own way to the airfield and we then hung around for ages. Apparently a... More

Such a flight is very expensive (~180 NZD), lasts about approx. 30 minutes and we saw unfortunately no whales. The pilot tried its best but no luck. This is disappointing but can happen. What I find inacceptable is the policy on how to handle this. No partial refund is given, not even a second opportunity at a discounted rate. At... More

We did this trip in February with our 2 kids (aged 8 & 11). We, like others, had our Whale watch boat trip cancelled. We rang Wings over Whales who were happy to accommodate us and their price for the 4 of us compared favorably with the boat trip. Before we took off the pilot does a really good briefing... More
