This trip exceeded all of our expectations and has definitely been a highlight of New Zealand so far. After getting up in the middle of the night to make the 5.20am meet time we were worried about how cold we were going to be and that the water would be freezing. There was no need as the wet suits provided... More

Top marks to the team at Dolphin Encounter. This was a superb experience from start to finish, we saw heaps of dolphins and had all expectations exceeded. We will definitely do this one again.

I've travelled the world and tried a tonne of different activities. Why did it take me so long to try this?!! The dolphin experience is completely unique and absolutely mindblowing! We were lucky to swim amongst hundreds of Dolphins; to be up close and personal in their environment is truly a jaw-dropping experience. Crew were well trained, friendly and helpful... More

We found this experience fantastic seeing and then swimming with the dusky Dolphins was amazing. The people are very professional and well organized. The boats and equipment were of high standard. We would recommend this experience for everyone, if you can't swim the viewing from the boat is excellent

This was to be one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand & it did not disappoint. One has to remember that this is visiting Dolphins in their home, the ocean - it can be rough (if you suffer with sea sickness, take a tablet!), you need to be a confident swimmer & reasonably fit. As a lady... More

Check-in was fast but the entire experience was a disaster. 1. For Swimmers that are not experience in diving or swimming in open seas- Dont be misled by reviews/pictures/claims that if you are an average swimmer, with their "buoyant" swimsuit, you will be able to do this tour. As this trip involves you being in an open ocean, to be... More

As an Australian, the thought of swimming in the open ocean with a bunch of wild dolphins left me excited but concerned - about sharks. I let the staff know of my concerns and they assured me they had never had any issues with sharks in their 25+ years of running the business. I also told them I was concerned... More

Even an Olympic swimmer would feel like like a muppet in the water with these mammals. We spent a total of about 30 minutes in the water with a huge pod of around 300 dolphins - mainly Dusky, but a few Common and rare Hector also - and the game is to be as entertaining as possible to entice those... Just came back from New Zealand. We did the dolphin encounter...it is a once in a lifetime experience. We chose the 5:30am departure, yes early but worth the sunrise. First of all, if you don't have a GoPro get one or rent one from them worth the money, was able to capture the playfulness of these dolphins, I thought I... More

I don't really know what to say about Dolphin Encounter that probably hasn't been said a dozen times before, but it really is that good and if you decide to swim I think the chance of being able to look a dolphin in the eye as it swims round you is so unique and unforgettable that you should take this...
