Booked a session in advance and luckily secured a spot. We unfortunately did not spot any dolphins (only killer whales) but had a great time onboard tracking the whales and seabirds.

A must do! We did the 5.30am tour and it was so unbelievable... the sunrise, the hundreds of dolphins, that come so close to you while swimming... For me personally the money was more then worth it! A once in a lifetime event!

I got a cancellation place because dolphine swimming was booked months in advance so be prepared! The crew members were really nice and new their stuff. Once we got swimming it was amazing! There were about 200 dolphines and they actually swam with you. Water wasn't too cold and we were given a proper wet-suit. We did swimming two times and... More

This was a fantastic memory of my holiday and I'm so glad I did it! Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, the tour boat wasn't overly crowded and we were given plenty of time in the water with the dolphins. We found a pod of dolphins about 40 strong (including babies) and entered the water four times. Three... More

We had a fantastic 3 hour trip at 5.30 am and enjoyed a lot of time with hundreds of playful dolphins - we went for the view but most enjoyed swimming with the dolphins

If your coming to New Zealand this should be on your list of things to do. The staff is very friendly and professional. Swimming with the Dolphins was a blast. As a bonus we also got to see some Pilot Whales and Bottle Nose Dolphins.

This is the most exhilarating and surreal experience. I went on the 5:30am trip and it was worth it. The staff at Dolphin Encounter is super helpful and seem genuinely happy for you to be there. The make sure all your gear fits well, show a safety video, then take you out to their boats. The pod we swam with... More

Swimming with a whole load of dusky dolphins. What more can I say? Great, friendly, crew, very respective of the dolphins. We were very lucky and saw a pod of several hundred at the end, and there were so many around as we swam and were so interactive. Absolutely mind-blowing.

Swimming with the dusky dolphins was a fun, memorable experience. Well organized. Appreciated that at the end they took us out to see pilot whales and bottlenoses too that happened to be sighted in the vicinity that day (and we say albatrosses as well). You can do swimming with the dolphins up in Bay of Islands too, but at least... More
