Probably one of the best activities I did!! It's such a privilege to swim with so many enthusiastic, curious and acrobatic dolphins. Even though the water was cold in the winter the experience and moment when you have 5 dolphins cruising around is just indescribable. We were lucky with the conditions and had a great afternoon. Swimming is quite tiring... More

If you are in Kaikoura, this is a must-do! What an amazing experience. The dolphins interact with you and react to your movements and noises. We encountered a very big pod and were able to get into the water several times. If you don't want to swim with the dolphins you can also stay on deck and enjoy their tricks... More

Major tip about swimming with dolphins - watch out for the wind and weather. We elected for an afternoon swim. By the time we were out at sea with the dolphins (a very choppy 45min boat-ride) only adults were allowed into the water and only for 10 minutes, because it got so rough that everyone were called back on board.... Travelling to Kaikoura was a stand-out experience on my New Zealand holiday. After arriving by tour bus at lunch time, we (tour group and I) set out for an afternoon cruise. Although it took some searching to find a dolphin pod it was incredibly exciting when we did. It was a real rush being so close to all the dolphins... More

This was a very fun day out. The staff at encounter are very friendly and helpful! Throughout the oat they pointed out all the local wild life such as seals and albatross. Sadly we didn't get to swim with dolphins on the trip as there weren't any to be found in the area (despite serious searching from the crew) We... More

After a failed trip of whale watching and the reading of many reviews we decided to try our luck with dolphin encounter, the set up is efficient and offers different experiences - you can dolphin watch on the boat or you can book to get in the water with the mammals yourself (we heard that this sells out quick in... Being surrounded by 2 pods about 400 dolphins was magical. A couple of them doing exuberance somersaults others playing with the boat and others almost nudging the swimmers.

Tons of dolphins everywhere. No guilt doing this because they respect the dolphins and are all about conservation. I was elated for hours after the experience. The water is def cold in June but the gear you wear definitely helps. Be sure to pack dry clothes to change into. Staff were very friendly as well.

This is a family business that has observed dolphins for a very long time. They know where to go, whether it's worthwhile, and how to interact with the dolphins. I was able to hangout with a ton of duskies for a few hours. Twas amazing. Will trust these guys the next time I hang out.

We were a little apprehensive about a dolphin swim in June, but were kitted out with wetsuits, gloves and booties which really kept us warm. The team had spotted a pod of dolphins that morning so were keen to get us out on the boat, they were just as excited as we were which was really cute! I cant put... More
