We were in Kaikoura just over a week ago and visited the Ohau Waterfall Walk and were lucky enough to find about a dozen seal pups in the pool. Definitely worth the short 10 minute walk from the carpark entrance. The walk is relatively easy with only about six steps to climb and a fairly flat pathway. Highly recommended.

Amazing! When we got to the waterfall there was only one sad looking seal pup. Then it started to swim and gave us a private swimshow. Also on the way back we spotted 3 pups, who were really interested in our GoPro. Got some great footage of them!

It was really fun to be at the Ohau waterfall when we spotted a few seal pups swimming in the pool. We even posed for a picture at very close proximity!

This experience was awesome. It may depend on the time of year but in July there was heaps of seal pups. Would definately recommend doing this.

Beautiful spot and just a short walk to the viewing area but unfortunately there was only one little pup and he was up high on the rocks. With it being an overcast day, it was very difficult to see him. The waterfall however was worth it anyway.

The walk is beautiful and very easy. You can see the sea pups in the river or in the pool under the waterfall. They arent as shy as their parents, so you can get quite close to them :) cute! :)

Worthy of a visit if you have time. It took about 10 mins to walk there, and at the time there were two seal pups playing in the freezing cold water (better them then me..). Nearby is the Ohau Point lookout where we pulled over, got out of the car and could see at least 30 or so large seals... More
