This was the 3rd of 5 "seal" encounters we had whilst in NZ's South Island, and the first where there we were able to get up close to the seal pups (on the beach at Ohau). We did the walk to the waterfall, but no pups at all which was disappointing, but the walk and the waterfall are lovely even... More

On our visit there were no pups to be seen at the waterfall, but it's only a short 10 minute walk from the road, and you are still rewarded by seeing a pretty waterfall. There's a colony of seals on the other side of the road anyway (Ohau Seal Colony, which has a separate tripadvisor listing), so you can do... More

Cute little waterfall, worth the 10 minute walk. Would be amazing to see pups swimming in the stream.

We stopped at the sanctuary on the side of the road and where amazed at how close they are and how cute they were sunning themselves on the rocks and the baby seals playing in the little rock pools . Kids loved it , great for getting some good photos too.

If you are roadtripping, you MUST stop here. Gorgeous stop on a rugged coastline where you can stand within an inch of beautiful little baby fur seals. In a blink and you'll miss it spot, you won't regret the awkward stop on a main road trying to find a car spot on the side of the road. We visited in... More

Lovely, accessible walk leading to see seal pups. Unfortunately they were not there. Waterfall is breathtaking to see.

Such a lovely easy walk perfect for the whole family. Unfortunately no seals this time of year, but we'll be back for sure!

We visited in February so unfortunately there were no pups but there are plenty to see on the ocean rocks nearby. Pleasant walk with nice waterfall at the end.

This is a wonderful taste of NZ. The walk is a short 10 minutes from the road. Its a flat easy walk suitable for everyone. There are native trees, birds and a flowing stream with clear water. The waterfall is a great photo opportunity. Good parking. Walk across the road to view seals. We visited in February and enjoyed watching... More
