It's great to see seals up-close, and a rare experience for most of us. I think that this attraction refers to the point north of Kaikoura where you can stop and see seals on the rocks beside the road, however there is at least one other seal colony nearby, in Kaikoura itself. That one had fewer seals when we were... More

According to a local, the seal here is much fewer now. Do not waste time driving there. Instead look up for some good seafood stall along the way

We were here on 14th Dec with a beautiful sunny day and never seen or been so close to so many seals. It was incredible and more so because we didn't have to pay for a tour, just a short walk and there they were. Would recommend if you have not been close to seals in natural habitat.

Our whale watch tour was cancelled due to adverse weather. Managed to hire the service of kaikoura shutter service to bring us to the seal colony before we catch the train back to Christchurch. Seals everywhere and very different experience as compared to seeing seals in the zoo. They were in their natural settings and our first such close encounter... More

This was such a fun experience for our whole family. We went to the colony in the early evening and there were lots and lots of seals on the rocks and even in the carpark. Seals were very tolerant and we were able to get close up photos, but still need to remember that they are wild animals and heard... More

This was a fantastic way to spend a lazy afternoon with our 12yo and 10yo. They had never seen seals in the wild before so it was a real treat. Apparently there weren't as many there as usual but we saw at least 100. Was a shame to see several dead seals along the walk and we were left wondering... More

Beautiful huge fur seals basking on the rocks and in some cases right next to parked cars. They are totally used to humans, but are still wild, and big, so treat with respect.

Get to see the seal up close in nature. A wonderful experience while driving along the Kaikoura coastline.

We went to the seal colony around 5pm and it was low tide. The water retreated and we could walk on the rocky plains. We were able to walk close to 2 seals resting on the rocks. We also walked alongside a baby seal so the experience was wonderful!

My partner and i hadnt heard about Ohau Point before we began driving to Kaikoura from Nelson. As we were driving alond state highway one, we pulled over and there were atleast 10 adult seals and one pup on the rocks. You are very close and can get some great photoes. We spent atleast an hour watching the seals relaxing,... More
