The cottage itself was adequate but I just got the impression that it's just a revenue-generator and no on really bothers. First there were no toiletries at all (no soap, shampoo etc). Had to go out and buy some as I could not find the owner to ask for them. The socket to plug in the heater was blocked completely... More

It's a natural place with many different animals. The pony ride for kids is really an attraction. Good privacy in the cottage. The beds and quilts are so comfortable for a good night sleep. It's worth going. More

The animals are so friendly and all get on with each other, the deer thinks she's a horse, the walaby is in love with the deer, funky looking chickens, turkeys that chase the dogs. It was a lot of fun and kids got a free pony ride. More

We went there with 2 couples (my mum and dad, plus wife) and was greeted by a very friendly and helpful lady called Fern. She gave us a tour of the farm, showing where all the animals were. She also kept checking on us and telling us lots of information about the animals and helping us get close to feed... More

We were there during our stay in Kaikoura. The farm entrance fee is about NZD10 per person. The feed for the animals cost another NZD2 per cup. In all, we saw some Alpaca (llama look-alike), some goose, chickens, pigs, donkey. Rather average I would say. More

We wanted to stay here on our first trip to the South Island and made a reservation on bookit.co.nz. The owner said he was out of town that night but his workers would be there to let us in. We had a long day driving there and arrived later than expected due to weather. I called when we were close... More

Although the decoration is not very modern but that’s not a problem we are tired about the star hotel, the house is very cozy and warm feel like home! We all... More

Wanted to try something different with kids so they could experience something outside of Urban life. It was a great experience and took me back to my childhood days never mind the kids! Animals are great and kids can really interact with them, free breakfast was enjoyed and staff couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome and enjoy the... More

4 ladies from Hong Kong went to NZ 20nov -30nov 2010, we have read many reviews on tripadvisor when choosing our accomadtion b4 going. We wanted a farmstay after swimming with dolphins in Kaikoura~ and we found this Cushchine Cottage is nearly the only choice for 4 of us...even the below comment was so bad but we still go for... On our three week trip of the South Island in January 2009 this was by far the worst accommodation we stayed in. The bedding was shocking and everything including the animals, and even the owners was a bit sad and worn out. While I appreciate that might have changed we would never recommend anybody stay here.
