We were en route to Greymouth from Fox Glacier. After visiting the Information Centre, we spotted Mountain Jade nearby and so we stepped in for a browse. It is rather spacious and with a variety of greenstone ornamental exhibits. There is a workshop allowing customers to see how the beautiful ornaments are made from stones. However, nobody was at work... More

Watching them craft these amazing items is mind blowing. Great talents! Love the peices in the store too. Have bought lots of jade pieces from here for my childre and will only buy here. Durable great pieces.

Nice shop to go around if you are in the area. There are lots of ornaments and articles and nice to browse. There different colors and varieties of jade that you can see. There were some good pieces we saw but nothing great or out of the ordinary.

The free guided tour was most interesting. It included some background information about the various sources and types of jade and you are able to see people working the jade from the raw material to the finished article. The shop has a wide range of goods. There is a café attached.

Nice to browse round. Possibly a good place to go if you are after jade as a gift. I wouldn't make a huge detour just to visit. Interesting to wonder through the area where they are shaping the stones.....

Mountain Jade was on our list of must go places when we toured New Zealand and was not disappointed. The store has lots of choices in many price ranges. Take the time, go on the tour offered, watch the carvers and become educated before shopping. From our tour, we learned that New Zealand Jade is not mined, but the pieces... More

The lady in the room where the carving happens was friendly and clearly enjoys sharing her knowledge. There was no hard sell and lots of educational info.

Bought a pendant in their store, found the same design on their OWN website 100NZD cheaper, and that's even before the 15% GST. I do like my purchase, and I understand each piece is different. But unless it's a different grade of gem stone altogether, I don't see why it's worth so much more in store! Not a good feeling.... More

We stopped at Hokitika hoping to see a ruby style gemstone that is supposed to come from there. Alas, the shop was closed. Consequently we visited this shop to look at its offerings. There were some very nice pieces available for sale, but we found that a lot of them were overpriced when compared to outlets elsewhere. However, the Japanese... More

Hi AntarcticBound, Thanks for your post. We try to offer items at every price-point because we understand that each customers budget, expectations and needs are different. The key is variety. Around 80% of our carvings sit under $150NZD, with gold & silver jewellery, large sculpture, and artist carving being priced between $150NZD - $30,000NZD. As a rule of thumb, these... More
