Well, then it's even better. You can paddle around the lake. If lucky it is flat calm and it feels like paddling on a mirror. Lovely views. The sandflies can be really anoying. Campsite close to the shore.

A beautiful lake surrounded by native bush with big stands of Rimu trees. Great easy bush walks and if wanted harder tracks to follow.

Nice lake to drive by if you have the time. It took about an extra hour to drive home from Hokitika Gorge via Lake Kaneire. We stopped along the way for many happy snaps, and enjoyed the drive. Stopped for a few short walks along the way, and enjoyed the visit.

I don't think I have seen any other place in NZ that has as many native birds as we did the day we spent here. Pack yourself a good picnic and some insect repellent and just enjoy the scenery, great swimming spots and the nature around you.

We were pleased that we could take our dog on the lead and walk around Lake Kaniere. So many places don't allow dogs. Beautiful views and lovely natural bush.

We had visited Hokitika Gorge and continued on to Lake Kaniere. Pleasant drive around the lake, looking at all the spots designated. Dorothy Falls were close to the road and great to see. Stopped for lunch near the little houses and jetty. Lovely spot to share a picnic.

We drove the loop from Hokitika to Hokitika Gorge to Lake Kaniere and back to Hokitika and got a little lost on the country roads, even though we had asked for directions at the I-Site. We expected better signage. We drove back and forth looking for the turn to Lake Kaniere, wondering, "Are we going the right way or not?"... More

Make the drive around the lake to the falls - well worth it. Wear good insect repellent. Beautiful spot no matter what the season - always changing

This looks like a lovely area that warrants further exploration on our next trip to New Zealand. Some nice walks and some fishing opportunities.

We were prepared for sand flies and so was worth carrying inset repellant around. If it was not for the rain we would go in the water. We saw people jet boating and swimming in the lake. A place for family outing.
