Getting here from Hokitika is a bit of a drive (although you can visit Lake Kaniere on the way), but is it ever worth it! From the parking area, it's a nice walk along the trail and over a swing bridge, and there's terrific views of the gorge all the way. The colour of the water is truly stunning. An... More

If you are in the area this is definitely a must-do. So wonderfully gorgeous & not too much of a walk. There is a swing bridge to cross and some rocks to climb if you want to get to the waters edge, but it is definitely worth it!

An easy walk and a lovely spot to take the kids. Watch out for the sand flies and enjoy the beautiful water.

This is number one for a reason. The drive from Hoki to the Gorge takes about 40-50 minutes, depending on how many signposts you miss! On a good day the carpark will be chocka so be prepared to circle a few times (dodging campervans) or park on the hill on the road a walk to the start. It’s an easy... More

This place was stunning, you see photos of this place and can't believe the colour of the gorge until you see it for yourself! Beautiful!

Decided to stay and explore the areas around Hokitika and we were so glad that the Hokitika Gorge lived up to all the reviews we read. Amazing coloured water, swing bridge and well laid walkways to the gorge. Toilets are on site at the carpark.

The gorge was not originally on our itinerary but we spoke to a stranger at lunch who had been and he highly recommended it. I'm so glad we took his advise. It was stunningly beautiful. I wish it had been a hot day as I would have loved to have taken a swim in the pristine glacier water. The colour... More

We stopped here on out way to Franz Joseph. We had a 3 year old and he just loved the hike and the bridge. The view from the end is simple amazing, swimming is allowed but I'm warning u about the sun flies which are very where. Certainly one of the top sights we've seen
