A must if you visit Holitika. Although it was drizzling with rain when we visited, it is well worth seeing. The water in the gorge was slightly murky becuase of the recent rain, but walking through the trees was like walking in an enh=chanted forest.

A great place to visit. The water and gorge is stunning and very photo worthy. Nice drive and family outing.

This is a natural attraction well worth a visit, if you have a little time. Pedestrian access is a walk along well tended pathways and boardwalks rather than a hike. The most challenging part, for a few people, would be crossing the suspension bridge -- although it is not particularly long or high. The water color is incredible, the surrounding... More

An absolute must-see if you're in Hokitika. About a 40 minute drive from the main town, with the last little bit on gravel road, then an easy 10-15 minute walking track which includes a suspension bridge over the incredible turquoise water of the gorge. The colour of the water is amazing and the gorge is surrounded by dense forest to... More

Approximately a 40 minute drive inland and then a short hike into the gorge. The drive and hike were beautiful... The surrounding mountains, valleys, and lush vegetation added to the brilliant blue of the water made for awesome photos. If you have the time it's worth the drive!

The walk takes about 20 min from the parking lot. There is a large suspension bridge that goes over the gorge and the river, so if you have vertigo there's a grassy lawn at the parking lot where you can spend your time taking to the super curious Kiwi bird life. Anyway, the walk culminates at the river edge where... More

Have to qualify my review as we were very disappointed, having driven so far and deep in, to see greyish / muddied / cloudy water. We went in the afternoon after a night of heavy rain, and the rain water apparently changes the chemical composition of the water and hence the colour. No doubt it's blue on usual days, but... More

Before I even got to this amazing gorge, I was bowled over my New Zealand's sublime natural beauty. The gorge was no exception. We drove out of town towards the site full of anticipation and I'm happy to report that the gorge is even more beautiful than we could have anticipated (and how often do you get to say that... More

Nice short walk to a small lake. Superb native bush, and a lovely swing bridge across over the river. The track is being worked on after a slip, but should be finished by now.
