Out of all the places we visited on a brief trip to the West coast this place will remain in our memories longer than anything else...There's plenty of gorges around the world but few that have water that's so turquoise it as though its been specially coloured to attract visitors. It's worth remembering some insect repellent as the sandflies like... More

About a half hour outside of Hokitika. Once you are in the car park about a 15 minute walk to the gorge and suspension bridge. Yes, it sways! Bugs too! Bring spray.

Would definitely take the time to take this walk. See the rain forest, blue glacial waters, rocks. Well laid out, wildlife wandering nearby. Be cautious when walking as some drop offs are steep. Do this instead of paying for a treetop walk... You will see more beauty and wildlife here.

It's 'WOW' when we walked in and see the blue water and swing bridge. It looks more beautiful than in the photo. The way to drive there from township is it very hard, there is a bit dirt road before reaching the parking area as same as other attractions in NZ.

This attraction was quite a ways off track for us, but we're glad we went as the natural beauty of the area is just stunning. I enviously watched others swimming, but we didn't have enough time for more than a stroll out to the water, snap a few photos, then head back to the car. We didn't get bit by... More

It was highly recommended by the Kiwis and Lonely Planet. It was pretty, but I wasn't very "wow" by it. Perhaps I had very high expectations for this place upon hearing the raves or perhaps I wasn't in the right season? The water wasn't that blue as compared to those I saw in pictures, and it doesn't seem that magnificent.... More

Its brilliant but we got eaten alive by the sand flies. Go prepared in long trousers and lathered up with a good reppellant

We made a special trip to Hokitika Gorge after reading reviews online that it was a beautiful spot to walk and view. No review can do this majestic sight justice - if you are any where near the area I recommend you just go and see for yourself. Well signed roads, a little bit of unsealed driving but lots of... Hokitika Gorge is stunning. Just a short walk from the car park. Anyone can visit this and experience the natural beauty of the Gorge. The water colour is just spectacular.

A Spectacular walk through some of New Zealands untouched native bush. About 40 minutes drive from Hokitika township with some of the way on a gravel road but well worth the effort. Park in the provided car park and walk through the native bush to a viewing platform. Walk further to a breathtaking swing bridge suspended high above a sparkling... More
