Beautiful, and well worth the drive out to the gorge to visit. It's an easy walk for little children, and the photo opportunity at the end is spectacular.

Another one of the many lovely spots in New Zealand's south island. Well maintained parking area and toilet facilities. The walk from the car park is easy and crosses a cable stayed pedestrian bridge providing a good vantage point for photos. The glacial water feeding the gorge looks stunning, and the drive there is similarly so. We then continued on... More

It's amazing! The water was incredibly turquoise and clear, the track is nice (really short and easy) and you end up in this gorgeous place :) the ONLY low is the amount of sandflies when you get close to the water.. but it's worth it!

So glad we took the time to visit even though we didn't stay the night at Hokitika. The first glance of the water just makes you gasp, it is stunningly turquoise. The walk is lovely and then you get to cross a cool swingbridge. We stood on the edge of the rocks looking down on the gorge, just be wary... More

Walks for everyone of different abilities and good facilities. Don't go after large volumes of rain if you expect to see the beautiful, clear blue water pictured in all the postcards, as it gets disappointingly muddy for up to a week or so after heavy rain.

The water really is bright blue making the gorge a great spot for photos. the suspension bridge is fairly photogenic. The colour of the water was too much and I decided to take a dip. It was very very cold and I wouldn't recommend leaving lagoon/ pool areas as we felt ourselves being swept away as soon as we got... More

On our day travelling from Franz Josef to Greymouth, we weren't sure if we could fit this into our day as it is about 30 mins out of Hokitika but I'm glad we did. Even though the weather was overcast and drizzly and the gorge not being as blue as other times, it was still one of the most enjoyable... More

The signs to the gorge are clearly marked, so even if you don't have a a GPS unit you can easily find it. It is about half an hour's drive out of the town, and at the carpark there are clean toilets available. After getting out of the car, there is a short stony forest trek to a swing bridge.... More

Ten members of a female 'Lions Group' on a mystery weekend, with 'The Gorge' on the to do list. An easy rental van drive through lush green farmland followed by the short stroll along a very well maintained path, took us to the turquoise blue water and stunning reflections. Native bush and birds added to the delight on a calm,... More
