Ten members of a female 'Lions Group' on a mystery weekend, with 'The Gorge' on the to do list. An easy rental van drive through lush green farmland followed by the short stroll along a very well maintained path, took us to the turquoise blue water and stunning reflections. Native bush and birds added to the delight on a calm,... More

From the parking lot it's a short walk to the famous "swinging" bridge. But all around you will find a wide variety of local trees, plants and birds. We were there in the Fall, and it was a damp trek, but well worth seeing the area and the beautiful water.

Definitely worth the detour effort. Not my first time seeing a blue river, so probably the wow factor was reduced. Will recommend a visit to this place.

Getting to the gorge was interesting. I was sure we were headed the wrong way as we drove through farmland! Once we arrived, the trail to the gorge itself was an easy walk. The colour of the water was amazing and you could see huge fish swimming. However, we could only stay for two quick photos because we were getting... More

About half an hour from the town centre, this is a little walk which leads you across the gorge to the side of the river. Paths were well paved and the walk was nice and short. Beautiful views of the river. If you have time do drop by. Nice but definitely not a most do along the west coast or... More

This was SO worth the wee drive off the main road. It is like being away in another world - a true slice of Kiwi paradise. Stunning scenery, lots of bird life (loads of super friendly fantails) with peace and serenity unmatched. I found myself taking lots of deep breaths to make the most of such pure fresh air. It... With is a wee bit of a drive of the beaten track but so very worth it! The Gorge is just stunning and oh so blue. So very peaceful and a real slice of paradise. The track is good and will suit all levels of fitness.

A visit to the Hokitika Gorge was a fair bit of a detour, but the drive through the lovely countryside on the way was great. The Gorge itself was also great, with a nice walk along the track, and across the suspension bridge. While it was a grey old day, and the water was only a milky colour, it was... More

The gorge is about 35 minutes drive from Hokitika on reasonable roads and well worth the detour, once you get to the car park there is a good walking track to the gorge and its only about 10 minutes walk To get the best out of it a sunny day would be an advantage as the water colour is spectacular.
