It was raining all night and into the next morning, so we looked for a rainy day activity. After we found Bonz 'N Stonz, we were so glad it was raining! We had an AWESOME experience today with Steve and Dan carving our own Jade one-of-a-kind pieces to take home with us and wear as an awesome memory of our... More

This shop sells original NZ Jade and you can also carve your own piece. All the pieces are handmade. I can see form the previous reviews that some people complained that the price was too high. The price is higher that some other shops because the Bonz' N Stonz jade is bought in Nz. Several shops in town sell Canadian... More

I had an amazing time at this workshop! Steve warmly welcomed me and my friend and Katene was the carver master who guided us through the day. He taught us every step and was there to help us whenever we needed it. The pounamu carving in itself is already a great experience but I believe the studio atmosphere and the... More

Bonz N stonz, was a great stop on the way down south :) we carved our very own green stone and learnt the methods of carving. All the guys helping us were great, making sure we were happy with our price the whole time. They were all very accommodating and a recommend stop for those travelling through the west coast.... Went there while on vacation. Spent a whole day and it was time well spent. Anyone the least bit artistic will enjoy this experience. Save your souvenir shop junk money and have a true cultural experience. You will have a better understanding of the people of this country, rituals, and leave with something you will truly cherish. Please tell "Steve"... More

As the weather forecast predicted 4 days of incessant rain, we had to reassess our sightseeing plans for the west coast. This turned out to be one of the best things that could have happened to us as when looking for rainy day activities we found bonz n stonz - the only place in hokitaka where u can carve your... En route around South Island, we wanted to stop in Hokitika, see if we can buy pounamu gifts for our friends back home. We soon discovered majority of jade pieces in the shops along the main street were imported from either British Columbia, or China. These non-native tiny pieces of stone, that a pre-schooler could have shaped, were expensive, but... More

Most of the reviews of Bonz 'N Stonz seem to related to the storefront - this review, however, is about the experience my wife and I had making jade pieces on our own in shop behind the store. Overall this was a great experience. There is no way we could have done this on our own, and with the guidance... More

This is a place with many different and interesting things to see. The prices are extraordinarily high, probably due to the asian buyers coming through the doors in tourist buses. You can carve your own piece, the bone already carved beautiful but not worth the prices involved. The minute i saw jade from China to buy, in competition with local... More

We had searched quite awhile and didn't see many natural stones around. We walked in to this unpretentious Artist Studio, met Steve and was impressed with his skill and his manner. Only disappointment was finding him so late and not being able to take a carving class. Next time for sure. We bought 5 and also had the best pricing... More
