This is an amazing place. I loved the 'taste', 'touch', 'listen' areas at the start of the garden - very innovative. The plantings are fantastic, the paths are well formed and easy to walk on and the lake and waterfalls add another dimension - a lot of thought has gone into the way the gardens are laid out. There are... More

We go to the Quarry Gardens about twice a year they are always an excellent free activity for the family. I know of several people who have had their wedding photo's there and they are amazing. When ever I take somebody there that has not been before they are amazed that we have this beautiful little haven hiding away in... More

I've been to the Quarry about 3 times at different times of the year. It's a wonderful place at any time. Take a camera and get some really cool photo's with the sculptures and if you're lucky, some gorgeous flowering plants. Wear waterproof shoes in winter as the ground does get mucky if it's been raining. In summer take some... More

Beautiful for a nice relaxing stroll amount some gorgeous scenery. Just out of the main Centre in Whangarei you relax with a picnic beside the lake and in the near future a cafe will be present. One of the best gardens around.

Someone (volunteers) work hard to change the abandoned quarry into a nice garden, appreciate for the passion and time spent to make this change happened. Good job. However, it still need more works to make this garden really beautiful, hopefully with the (financial) help of non profit/charity organizations. With work hard definitely make this garden will be more and more... More

Hi Santo, thanks for your honest review. After heavy rainfall the lake does 'cloud-up' due to sediment from neighbouring properties entering the waterways. This clears within a week or so. Yes we have a huge job maintaining and improving the Gardens, and admit that some areas need a lot of work; would you like to Volunteer some time? We always... More

My wife and I paid a visit here and we were really pleased that we did. The gardens are peaceful, full of colour & wildlife and make excellent use of the natural features of the old quarry site. We spent a good hour here and I would recommend it to any visitors.

We happened upon these beautiful gardens quite by chance, and how lucky we were! Such a variety of plants in the most glorious of settings and maintained by a bunch of dedicated volunteers, with entry by donation. A gem with a surprise around every corner, well worth a visit.
