Ocean Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. There is plenty of parking, but it is quite a walk from the carpark to the beach. There are toilets there, which is nice, and the surf lifesaving club is there in the summer with lifeguards. The scenery cannot be beat, and you can climb up the hill... More

Great for a nice walk, with wide and long beaches. At high tide is a bit challenging to get around the heads, though.

This is such a beautiful unspoilt beach... what's not to love about it. Even in the height of summer it's never crowded. You might be lucky enough to see dolphin playing... they are regular visitors.

This Beach is located 45 mins from Whangarei on the east side of the Whangarei Heads Peninsula. It is patrolled by surf-lifesavers throughout the summer months. Its the most fantastic white sandy surf beach. You can hike either left or right and get to other stunning adjacent beaches there. There are toiletfacilities by the carpark but bring your own food... Around three quarters of an hours drive from Whangarei. Beautiful white sand. Good supervised swimming in the summer months. Great walks either north up the beach towards Kauri Mountain or head south and connect with the ridge walk back to Urquhart Bay.

As one other reviewer suggested, has to be one of the best surf beaches in northland. As a teenager growing up in Whangarei this was the place were alot of time was spent. If you love great beaches take the 45minute drive from Whangarei and i guarantee you wont be disappointed

This is one of the most beautiful beaches I feel in Northland. Beautiful white sandy beach and fantastic walks. In the summertime one can feel safe swimming between the flags as the lifesaving club is nearby. Great beach for surfing on a good day. Fishing from the rocks at Ocean beach is yet another treat to do.

It is a bit of a drive from Whangarei (about 45 minutes) ... but it is well worth the time to get to this gem of a beach. The main beach is a real attraction for surfers and wave hoppers alike. Being a patrolled beach makes it generally safe for the family, but may be too rough for the very... More

Bring a picnic because there isn't anything around here other than a few holiday houses. A stunning location, great for a swim or hiking around the headlands. There's a big sand dune for kids and big kids. A must visit if you're in the area.
