Wangarei Beaches and inlets

Whangarei region has beautiful bays with lovely small inlets for boating, kyaking, and swimming. The scenery is beautiful and well worth a visit.

What? Amazed that 6 people only gave this area average. This has to be one of the most beautiful places in the north New Zealand and so close to Whangarei. There are so many beautiful beaches around this area you could visit for months (or actually just live there and be done with it! Ex inhabitant pining to go back... More

What a lovely drive down to The Heads, pretty villages and lovely beaches. Well worth the effort. A bit lacking in coffee shops/restaurants in that area, one or two but quite difficult to locate, ask advise from locals

There was no real place to stop for a nice hike or beach access. We found the viewpoint for the oil refinery a bit odd. Why not a viewpoint for the ocean or the heads?

Whangerai Heads pronounced "Fanguree Hids" are worth the 23 kilometer drive from the town of the same name, Whangerai. Curvy yes, yet worth driving a little slower to take in the sights along the way. Massive "head" formations are set against the coastline. Having lived in the Southwest, the ocean, beach and bay excursions are so welcome ! Take a... More

Two of us decided to tick another thing off our bucket list so decided on snorkeling at Reotahi. This has been a Marine REserve for about 4-5 years and although the fish are very small we are pleased we enjoyed the fresh air and the harbour. We were a little unsure exactly where the best place is for snorkling but... More
