We entered this relatively small enclosure and was met first by the in your face humidity. An artificially created tropical paradise for hundreds of butterflies (400 +) according to the owner. Several species, it takes only moments to be "greeted". I had a huge gorgeous one land on my thigh and stay there. So easy to photograph, they are domesticated!

this was a surprise winner; not much to look at from the outside (and at the end of a very narrow winding drive, in a fairly run down caravan park) but once you're inside, it's crammed with absolutely beautiful butterflys. Its not large, but loads of butterfly, and only about $30 entrance for a family of 5, good value.

If you have an interest in Butterflies at all, this is a place you should visit. Although it is not a huge Butterfly Garden, it is big enough for you to experience the magic of Butterflies. There are around 500 different species inside the garden and they are truly beautiful.

Naturally a hothouse to visit but worth the heat to see all the beautiful butterflies especially the blue ones which were constantly flying around you. You have to be careful when you leave, even though we checked one butterfly took a lift out on us - not sure where it hid but it fluttered out once we were out of... More

We visit the butterflies every New Year when we make our annual trip to stay with family in Waioumu. This year we noticed that the place felt a little run down, empty fish ponds out the front and a few dead butterflies lying around, for example. That said it's still very cool and this year I think there may actually... More

Have driven past the turnoff to this place many times and not taken the time to call in. How dumb was that! Situated in a quiet valley just off the Thames Coast Highway, and sitting alongside what appears to be a very agreeable camping site, this garden is a gem. Just fascinating to be up so close and intimate with... More

Clever use of resources, beautiful butterflies, moths and pretty finches fluttering amongst the well thought out garden. Take your camera and enjoy taking some pics of these spectacular creatures. Enjoyed our visit.

This is a small, local attraction without the hype of larger places. You pass through a small lobby, into a tropical garden full of butterflies of many varieties. The plants were lovely, but not many blooming orchids. We spent a couple of quiet hours sitting in the middle of the garden, watching the butterflies flit around the garden; peaceful and... More

It doesn't look like much from the outside but this was a lovely place to visit. The garden is lovely (although not many flowers at the time I visited). The longer you sit and watch the more butterflies you see. I definitely recommend a visits - A great place for photos!

The butterfly house is located in a holiday park at the north end of Thames, and well worth visiting. It is a smaller place, and there weren't many orchids in bloom at the moment, but there were a few and there were a large amount of butterflies. It is a great place to spend some time just watching the butterflies.... More
