I tend to walk most places when I stay in Melbourne, which is often, and well... its a boardwalk over mangroves. Can be a little on the nose when the tide is out but there is a nice cafe/restaurant along the way (gets busy on the weekend REALLY busy). I don't know what else to say. If you like mangroves... Didn't see any penguins but luckily nor did I come across any of the bike riders who seem to cause some angst. It's a nice part of Melbourne and boardwalks always have an appeal to me.

The boardwalk is nice and wide, and I walked along it to and from the pier in the morning and evening. All of the benches are located in full sun - it would be nice to have some in shade on hot summer days. The best part is walking to the end of the pier and looking for fairy penquins... More

Not sure what's happening on that mangrove, but we had to put our hands over our noses and walk quickly by one of the sections, maybe sewerage, who knows, but was definitely on the nose!!

The boardwalk is well made, the views are great, but if a bike rider, rings their bell let them go. You need to pay them respect, don't ignore them. Liked the dance class on the boardwalk, the hang gliders, the jetties into the bay are a must, but mind the sand, there may be discarded glass or syringes about.

We walked it first thing in the morning, then went to the street market, then Ackland St. Just after dark the penguins come in to their nests. We also saw Apodaca of dolphins and other critters. Take a good torch. You really need to be in a group late at night in this area, especially in the warmer months.
