This company has operated since 1920 and the grandson of the original operator is the managing director. There are several options for travelling around the Gippsland lakes and we took the 2 and a half hour afternoon trip. It is picturesque with a little commentary and you can buy drinks and snacks on board, but fairly limited. Apart from some... More

Excellent cruise around the lakes, including the beautiful homes of Paynesville. Adequate commentary, friendly barman and clean and comfortable boat. Recommended.

We took the longer cruise hoping that we would get the most out of the experience. The company has been running these cruises for three generations and we were therefore hoping for informative insight into the area, the wildlife and the history. What little commentary that was provided did nothing but list the names of the places we were passing.... More

we took the sunday 1 and a half hour 11am tour. It turns out this was just a ferry service for people having lunch in metung. At $30 a person it was very poor value. No commentary and no wildlife spotted.

This scenic cruise through Reeves Channel, Bancroft Bay, Lake King, Paynesville, Sperm Head National Park, into Lake Victoria, around Raymond Island, to Metung and Chinaman's Creek was excellent. We saw beautiful scenery, many water birds, seals and other fauna. The commentary was interesting as it gave us some history of the area.

Because we were disappointed the water taxi was not running on a recent day that we were at Lakes Entrance and we wanted to go to the Barrier Landing to visit a family property near there, Peels skipper James Peel happily volunteered to take us out after his scheduled winery cruise. He was as interested in the visit to the... More

We went on the lunch cruise to Metung. It was a lovely sunny day and our captain was very friendly but I felt the trip to be lacking somewhat. There was very long periods when we were just motoring along, I had hoped for a lot more commentary. Two hours in Metung is also a very long time, there is... More

We were visiting from Canada and had no idea about this beautiful area of Victoria state. The Lakes of Gippland were a pleasant surpise. The best way to appreciate the size and diversity of the lakes district is to take a half day cruise on the Peels ship the Thunderbird. The boat was comforable and had plenty of space both... More

Peels is the oldest provider of ferry services at Lakes Entrance. We did the 70 km loop covering the major lakes and it was quite a journey. The Captain gave bits and pieces of information on all the islands we crossed, there was food, coffee and liquids on sale, the icecream was a sell-out as it was a pretty hot... More
