Description: The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was...
The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

We visited the Discovery Center before out Steam Boat Ride On the Murray River. I love Australian history and my partner loves everything steam operated. I spent about 2 hours wondering around looking, reading and watching everything. I loved it. My partner spent the entire time out side watching the steam machines and i had to drag him away before... Due to inclement weather we didn't play gold but toured the port area with tour guide Jenny, then went back that night for the ghost tour.

Has not been opened long and you need to purchase a ticket if you want to go out onto the wharf. They have spent a lot of money and the amount we paid was reasonable for the experience. Also went on a paddlesteamer so that we could cross that off the bucket list. Their is plenty to keep you occupied for... More

It's interesting to hear & see the history of Echuca. The staff are very friendly & knowledgeable. What was great is that it's dog friendly. We took our small dog on a Murray river cruise & were even able to take her through the discovery centre. Our dog kept her distance from the port cat when we went on the... More

This was a great experience learning about the history of the Murray River & it's surrounds. There are working displays of a sawmill and steam engines and the old port & railway station along with lots of equipment and photos. Well worth a visit. The engineer who operated the steam engine was lovely.
