Description: The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was...
The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

We spent 2 days in Echuca/Moama and we had been here about 2 and a half years ago but the centre was not opened then, so we went for a look, this is very informative especially if you plan on spending some time on the Murray on a paddlesteamer.

If you are interested in Australian history, visit here. While we've been here a few times now, we always find wandering the streets and buildings worth while. Art gallery, wine tasting, blacksmith selling his products, and the centre itself is worth the admission fee. Wander the centre reading and viewing before going outside to see old machinery in operation. Wander... More

What a fantastic attraction. Loved all of the displays. Spent an hour looking at everything. Would recommend this to everyone and would suggest the schools also take the students there.

Very well set out, gave good overview of what the old Port was like. Interesting display and the area around was a step back to the past with blacksmith and other shops.

This is something Echuca can be proud of. The Discovery centre is very interesting and clearly depicts the history of Echuca. The steam driven machinery is fascinating and the operator was happy to talk about the machinery. The rail yard is great to wander through and then to look over the wharf down to the river and paddle steamers ,it is... More

Great place to visit and learn about not only Echuca's past, but the history of paddle-steamer cargo trade. Attached woodworking and metalworking artisan centres also provide a wonderful insight into those crafts. And this visit reaffirmed my view (as a once-was-craftsman) that river red-gum is a most amazingly stunning timber !!!
