The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

The Centre is part of the larger old port complex. Has videos that trace the history of the port, plus interest static displays with peek-a-boo drawers that kids find interesting (not only kids).

It was a wonderful experience with a tour guide and the information that he gave made the visit a memorable one. The tour takes about 40 minutes which was lone enough.

This new centre was somewhat controversial when it was built but it certainly provides a high level of tourist assistance. Lots of quite nice souvenirs. This is the place to go to learn about what to do and see in Echuca and you can book for river cruises and tours etc. Staff were friendly even though we arrived at 9am... More

This was the highlight of our trip to Echuca!!! our tour of the town was just fantastic, our guide was both knowlegable and engaging and kept the kids interested for the hour and a half that the tour took. The Heritage package is defiantly worth the value as we didn't have to dig into our pockets again for the whole... More

We joined the other pirates on a treasure hunt through the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, that I assume they run frequently during school holidays. Several staff were dressed up and Pirate Phil was guarding the bootie of gold chocolate doubloons. We had to find 4 treasure chests and answer 8 questions. Even though my boys; 3 and 5.5 couldn't... What has the council done to what was once a full heritage museum? The new building does not fit in with the port architecture, nor to some of the more recent additions either. The wharf area has been well rebuilt but the exhibitions have been let deteriorate, the saw mill is now completely fake, I was shocked. This used to... More

Thank you for your feedback following your recent visit to the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre. We have forwarded your comments onto the Shire of Campaspe. Like you we are excited that the Council have preserved an iconic historic asset in the wharf and provided the foundation for a great historic experience. Our challenge is now to build on this... It was a bit of a shame that to see anything at the historic port, you had to pay a fee at the Discovery Centre, but I guess it's understandable given how much it would cost to maintain. We went as a family of four and paid extra for the Travelling Outback Show which was entertaining. Then we left and... More

We stayed in Echuca for the weekend for a wedding that was on the warf, over looking the Murray River. GREAT SPOT. The paddle steamers are great ! Takes me back to my childhood when there was one in Albury ! Overall great experience, with arcades and lots of iconic pieces from back in the day.

We did the 11.30 guided tour with Joel, it was really good and well worth the time. The information displayed in the discovery centre is great but the guided tour was much more interesting. My children both said history would be interesting if taught like this. We walked the street went to the hidden bar and listened to many stories... More
