Description: The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was...
The Port of Echuca is a living monument to the 1870's when it was Australia's largest inland port and indeed the third largest port in Australia outside Sydney and Melbourne. Authentic steam driven paddlesteamers depart daily from the Echuca Wharf which originally extended 333 metres in length in the 1880's and has been recently been reconstructed.Home of the TV series "All the Rivers Run", the Port of Echuca will provide you with a glimpse of what live was really like in the late 1800's. With the new Discovery Centre now open, it is indeed an attraction not to be missed.

We used the discovery center a lot for information, with regards to what where to go and to see. Information on Paddle steamers, and who to talk to to get extra information. The staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. Thank you and well done.

Brilliant showcase of the history of Echuca. You must do the tour, our tour guide 'Joel' was outstanding, his knowledge & how he brought history to life was exceptional.

A nice link to a paddle steamer trip is a visit to the Discover Centre - if you are a history buff there will be enough here to keep you happy - it is not a huge display - so you can soak it all in without spending 2 hours here - more like 30 minutes and then off to... More

Council got $14 million from Vic government (LNP) kicked out Blacksmith, Redgum furniture makers, trying to kick out wood turner, allowed Star Hotel owner (local councillor) to close of old room with tunnel access (good tourist attraction), Sharps Theatre falling down and High Street shops closed. No upgrades of Bridge Hotel (council owned). Before long under this current council Echuca... More

We enjoyed our time at the Port. A friendly lady explained the various options. There has been a great effort to recreate what life would have been like in the 1800's when the paddle steamers were an important part of Australian life. Our cruise was most enjoyable and relaxing with a friendly well informed Captain. The Discovery Center is filled... More

I liked wandering through the area and the kids enjoyed hunting for special objects so they could cross them off their list. Next time, I would purchase the package that includes this, a ride on a paddlesteamer, the Holden museum, etc. but we didn't have the time this time around.

We had a very good guide (Jenny) spoke very well and was very knowledgable kept the whole group interested and our trip on the paddle steamer was enjoyable. The whole centre is well worth a visit. The paddle steamers that have been restored are a real credit to the people who have done the job

We went on a tour with a guide, who really knew everything you need to know about the history of the town. He was a local and grew up on the river and is now part of a group restoring one of the original paddle steamers
