Established in 1887, Bendigo Art Gallery is the largest, and one of the oldest regional galleries in Australia.

The Gallery's collection is extensive and varied with an emphasis on 19th century European art and Australian art from 1800s onwards, alongside a strong collection of contemporary Australian art. The collection is complimented by dynamic temporary exhibitions and a diverse range of public programs and events.

We have been to Bendigo Art Gallery on many occasions as we are locals. The fantastic exhibitions that have made there way to Bendigo (sometimes the only Gallery in Australia) is because of the dedication of the staff especially the Director

Visited to see Archibald Prize winners, during our tour around Victoria. I was not impressed with the shop assistant in the gallery shop. She needs to remember why she is there.

Hi Veronica, I think you may have confused us with another gallery? We aren't hosting the Archibald Prize this year. Warmest regards, the team at Bendigo Art Gallery More

We were very pleased we stopped at the Bendigo Art Gallery. The attendants were most helpful and gave us detailed information on the things we wanted to see (ST Gill). The building itself is magnificent and well worth the visit alone. Shame that the cafe was closed the day we visited.

The Art Gallery is called one of the best in rural Australia and it is totally true. They have many nice paintings and also a good cafe, where one can enjoy a meal. Definitely worth seeing. Be aware that it is closed on Mondays.

I'd read that this is one of the better regional galleries in Australia with a good curator and that was a primary motivation for visiting Bendigo. Apparently, recently it changed from 7 days a week to 6 days a week. Several shop owners across the street were surprised when we mentioned this after turning up at 10.00 a.m. on Monday... More
