Established in 1887, Bendigo Art Gallery is the largest, and one of the oldest regional galleries in Australia. The Gallery's collection is extensive and varied with an emphasis on 19th century European art and Australian art from 1800s onwards, alongside a strong collection of contemporary Australian art. Small art gallery in a spacious and light filled building. Good mix of traditional and modern exhibitions. The café was closed on a Tuesday when we went for a school holiday program which was good, cafe open on Wednesdays to Sundays.

Loved seeing some unfamiliar works by favourite artists as well as such creative contemporary art, especially the Last Supper exhibition. Green rotunda was lovely even in mid winter. Lamb and vegetable soup at the gallery cafe was memorable.

Loved their collections, both modern and classical. The Last Supper was quite a gorgeous piece! If you're around the area, you cannot miss the Art Gallery. It's worth spending a few hours in.

Any trip to Bendigo should include a visit to the Bendigo Art Gallery. The Gallery is a blending of classical and modern, both in terms of architecture and collections. Many small regional galleries have good collections. Bendigo has an exellent collection of both Australian and European/Pacific/Asian art. Paintings, textiles, ceramics and furniture are well displayed along with modern and post-modern... More

Surprisingly good and large collection. Both modern and more classical paintings, sculptures, and decorative pieces. Mostly domestic artists. Has a coffee shop, but I didn't try it

Terrific gallery. Constantly interesting, especially since its extension. Well curated, varied displays along with expertly mounted block busters. Love it. Don't miss it.

We always visit the Bendigo Art Gallery when we go to Bendigo. It is one of those hidden treasures that delivers so much. The permanent collection is always worth seeing. The small S.T Gill exhibition of goldfields paintings was most attractive. Our 13 year old grandson liked the gallery.
