Established in 1887, Bendigo Art Gallery is the largest, and one of the oldest regional galleries in Australia. The Gallery's collection is extensive and varied with an emphasis on 19th century European art and Australian art from 1800s onwards, alongside a strong collection of contemporary Australian art. The collection is complimented by dynamic temporary exhibitions and a diverse range of public programs and events.

Small, welcoming and with a strong selection of artworks for a regional gallery. The temporary exhibitions were national in scope and the permanent collection, although limited and obscure, holds some real gems.

A must see especially when there's a touring exhibition. This gallery attracts some great shows. Centrally located in an historic building. Cafes close by and next to the Capitol Theatre.

While the gallery is renowned for some of its exhibitions, we were impressed by the breadth and diversity of the permanent exhibition of Australian and international art. Many of the important Australian artists are represented. Some of the most interesting paintings to us, such as John Perceval's "Oakleigh Landscape", showed landscapes prior to the spread of suburbia. It is also... More

An impressive regional gallery with a diverse collection of Australian art and a commitment to keeping the collection relevant and exciting. I've visited two times. One was a visit from Canberra to see the Royal Academy exhibition and the other just passing thru when the Ned exhibition was a knockout. Great gallery.

A wonderful building in a city of wonderful buildings. A great small collection of European and Australian art well worth a visit. The Gallery café is a delightful place to sit outdoors while having a break from the art.

Beautiful gallery. Well spaced out. Very clean. But disappointed in the art exhibitions. They all seemed similar displays (dark & disturbing). Would have liked more variety in art display - to appeal to broader audience (friends, family). We chose not to pay for Ned Kelly exhibition... $10 each felt alot.

Entry by donation. Beautiful interior and well laid out. Some themed rooms with interesting pieces. Needs a lot more sculptures.

We popped in to see the Ned Kelly exhibition prior to the Easter Parade. You get to see his armour, death mask and various documents before you enter the fee paying exhibition. The exhibition has numerous depictions of Ned by famous [Nolan] and less famous artists. It was a great way to spent an hour or so. The Bendigo Gallery... More
