This river is called the Tamar River and it winds all the way to the bass straight through the Tamar Valley. Take a trip on the river with Tamar River Cruises, you will enjoy it very much, they have good food and friendly staff, and good commentary about the river and it's history. Or you can take a drive down... More

2 cruises available and both are excellent...ranging from a 50 min cruise of the gorge to a 2.5 hour river cruise . Magnificent views all the way along and excellent commentary to match

Loved the calmness and size. Such a peaceful setting with beautiful wildlife and surroundings. Being a water person, it was nice to enjoy and take in the views. The beauty adds to the memories.

I took the 50min boat trip, to get a feel of what there was too see, the gent was very informative and chatty, asking where everyone had come from, new a great deal about the history of launceston , the boats moored up, the bridges and the river in general. Good value

The river is nice to walk or travel along, I see the locals are trying to improve the area and hopefully the water quality. Overall a nice area but more work required to make the River area more attractive.

A stroll along the river bank is a must-do for me, especially when there is fish and chips at Seaport at the end!

This trip is well worth doing any day, any weather. Our vessel was very comfortable, the hospitality was great, morning tea scrumptious, wine tastings, lunch and all the trimmings very well presented. Our crew were very friendly and welcoming from the moment we boarded to the minute we arrived home. We recommend this trip and thoroughly enjoyed our time with... More

Eat fab fish n chips in Seaport, then wander along to catch the Lady Launceston boat up the Gorge or for a longer trip along the river. The guide/Captain is friendly and informative and when the boat reaches the Gorge it switches to a silent electric engine so you can appreciate the grandeur and atmosphere of the place. Well worth... A great way to spend a few hours. Whether you do the 2 hour cruise or the 4 hour cruise with wine and cheese tastings and lunch thrown in you will enjoy the "history lesson" as you cruise up the Tamar looking at the scenery along the river banks and appreciating how hard the early settlers had to work to... It's hard to miss the river and there are so many walks along various parts of it that there is no excuse not to get out of you car and meander along it. Lots of birds to see and learn a bit about the history of Launceston shipping.
