Owner description: Located in the heart of Wollongong's Arts Precinct, Illawarra Performing Arts Centre (IPAC) is the region's most loved and respected venue for the performing arts. Comprising three versatile spaces, it plays host to a variety of events, from internationally renowned theatre, music, dance, comedy and children's programming, as well as a wide range of community events. Merrigong Theatre Company is the venue manager of IPAC and a vibrant regional theatre company in its own right - producing, presenting and touring exciting contemporary theatre and supporting the development of a wide range of theatre-makers and local independent artists. The name Merrigong, found in early accounts of European exploration of the Illawarra, is thought to be a derivation of the indigenous word for the region's distinctive escarpment.

Great theatre in the heart of Wollongong. Shows are usually well priced, cheaper than Sydney and you get to sit close to the stage and have a great view of the act. Free parking is available at the council car park just a few metres away. Seats are comfortable, toilets clean and there's a small cafeteria too.

IPAC always have an interesting programme, everything from Musicals, Plays, Comedians, Choirs etc. I have watched plays and musicals at the IPAC. The service is always good and no matter where your seating is, you will always have a good view of the stage. Most of the time tickets are available on the day, but best to but tickets beforehand... The Ipac has been around for many years and continues to put on excellent shows. 1 large and 1 small theatre cater to different sized productions.

The IPAC host a huge range of Artistic & Cultural Events in a very comfortable building. They present a large and varied program throughout the year, with something for all tastes. There are evening and matinee sessions with special for school groups etc. The theaters were renovated in 2011 and a completely new dining experience introduced in 2014. The centre... More

We have subscribed to the season for the last couple of years and we are rarely disappointed by the quality and variety of the performances. We find the booking system ok and the staff are helpful. It makes for excellent entertainment and a very enjoyable afternoon or evening out. We travel from Nowra and can usually find matinees that suit... More

Loved the two shows I saw here. Saw Katie noonan in oct 2012, show was great but how the staff treated a woman with a disability was pretty disgraceful & kind of ruined the night - she was making loud noises, which according to her carer indicated age was enjoying herself but it was disruptive to the performer & the woman... The Arts centre is about 800 metres from Wollongong's main shopping area and 200 metres or so to a lovely beach. I found the seating to be quite comfortable and the stage can viewed easily from any seat in the centre. Quite modern and acceptable for most performances in my opinion

We often visit the IPAC to see a show. They have great shows on their programme each year. Often these shows are touring shows, starting or finishing in Sydney, such as the Wharf Review. The shows are reasonably priced and we usually do dinner in one of the nearby small cafes or restaurants which are only a short walk away.... More
