Description: Australia's first boutique winery, Lake's Folly was established in...
Australia's first boutique winery, Lake's Folly was established in 1963. A small, true 'estate' producer with only 30 Acres (12 Hectares) of vineyards, Lake's Folly's wines have been grown, vintaged and bottled on site since 1963. ONLY TWO WINES ARE MADE: a Cabernets (Red) blend and a Chardonnay, which are available in limited quantities and are highly sought, selling out each year through Lake's Folly's Cellar Door and loyal Mailing List. The Cellar Door is open 7 Days (when wine is available), but is closed for several months each year after the wines sell out. * Five RED Stars Winery - James Halliday * Best Small Cellar Door, Hunter Valley - Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine: 'Australia's Best Cellar Door Awards' 2015 * 'Most Collected Cabernet' - Australia's Most Collected Wines 2013 (Wine Ark) * 2nd 'Most Collected Chardonnay' - Australia's Most Collected Wines 2013 (Wine Ark)

Was not intending to visit as I know that the supply is very limited, but as I already have a small amount of their reds decided at the last moment to call in and enquire about upcoming releases. Mark was very informative and we were able to taste the 2013 Cabinet. The tasting room is rather small and not the... More

I organised a wine tour for myself and six friends for Easter. Knowing it would be busy I contacted the vineyard in advance, they suggested we turn up and see if we can get in which was fine. When we arrived however, we were ignored for a good proportion of our time there and it wasn't that buys. When eventually... More

We were quite excited to come see "Australia's first Boutique winery" situated in the gorgeous Hunter Valley. The small, cute tasting room had two couples already there for a tasting and we were invited to try the wines. The service was terrible, with the male attendant at cellar door ignoring us for the large portion of our time there, making... More

Lake's Folly vineyard has a cute little cellar door and if lucky to taste a vintage they make an excellent wine however they only produce small amounts as a boutique vineyard so supply is limited. Regular customers who order cases annually obviously are the winners however if you are lucky enough that they have some in stock in the tasting... More

Loved this place. It's small, the tasting room is simply a small counter with a couple of barrel tables and chairs. They only have 2 wines so you can taste them both. Their Cab is ranked #2 collectible in Australia. Their Chardonnay was outstanding. They're not like US Chardonnays. Bought a 2011, 50th anniversary vintage cab. Delicious!

Lake's Folly vineyard and cellar door, came really highly recommended and our expectations were quite high. But they were exceeded. The warmth of the people, the friendly atmosphere and quality of the wine were the top highlights of the visit . The guys at the cellar door, inclusive of the winemaker Rodney Kempe, were more than happy to spend time... More

If you are looking for an everyday wine, I think this would not be what you're looking for at $65/btl (of course cheaper by the dozen) but if you are looking for something special well this could be an option ... I cannot afford Penfold's Grange and given that this rates #3 on the same list you should drop by... More

Don't go here expecting a big tasting range...there are two wines and that's it..that's all there has ever been. The wines are around $65 a bottle and you will have to trust your palate because they are young. You will also need patience because they are not going to be ready to drink for a while. Nice small cellar door... More

This winery only had two winners a chardonnay and a Cabernet but both were amazing. They close when they sell both varieties. Their wine is not cheap but the quality is extraordinary. It is a must place to visit. So far my favorite winery in the region.
