This is my second time going to this zoo- Last year we went and did the full tour- we drove ourselves around from enclosure to enclosure...it was a lot of fun! Being able to drive was great on this hot summer day - but you could definitely walk the whole zoo if you wanted to (and had the time/energy). You... More

My partner gave me the "Billabong Camp" overnight stay at Dubbo Western Plains Zoo as a Christmas gift and we finally arranged to go at the end of August 2014. The weather was perfect, with cold crisp nights and days in the low twenties, just perfect for a bit of 5-star camping and cycling/walking around the 5-6kms that is the... More

Dubbo Zoo was a great day out. Very different to Taronga in Sydney, there is a large focus on African Animals so no marine animals at all. Exhibits are huge giving the animals lots of room to move. I know some people have complained about this saying animals were lying at the back but it was alot nicer than seeing... More

This zoo is well worth the visit. You must remember this is a open plain zoo, so don't expect to see all the animals you would see at a city zoo, but saying that there is a fantastic selection to see. Each section is fenced by mounds & moats leaving that open feeling. There are several options for getting around,... More

We are not big fans of zoos but are ardent animal lovers and amateur wildlife photographers, and WP Zoo was a really lovely suprise. Open and spacious, no cages, and a great collection of species. It was a lovely sunny day, not too hot, so perfect. We chose to drive though the eectric carts were tempting (but too expensive at... More

Ist time visited took the Zoofari option including overnight accommodation on site...excellent meals, great zoo tours and 'behind the scenes' activities. Staff very professional and enthusiastic about their job, learnt a lot about the animals and conservation issues, great work by our young guide Rachael and all the staff...who also doubled as sommeliers in the lodge. Have been to larger... More

We visited the Western Plains Zoo in July 2014. The layout is great and there are several ways of getting around to view the animals - car, motorised cart, bike or walking! We arrived about 10 am and travelled round by car. It is good to see the animals given so much room - unfortunately because it was quite a... More

Last week we enjoyed the Zoofari experience at the Dubbo Western Plains Zoo. This included overnight accommodation at the zoo (in a Savannah View Lodge), dinner, breakfast and three behind the scenes tours of the zoo, its animals and facilities. The whole experience was amazing. Woke up in luxurious accommodation to see giraffes and zebras grazing about 50 metres from... More

We stayed overnight in the Zoofari Lodge over the weekend, we traveled 6 hours from south of Sydney for our visit. It is definitely well worth the drive! It is an amazing, once in a lifetime experience! Absolutely incredible to wake up and look out from your deck over the Savannah to see Giraffe, Zebra and Eland right on your... More
