If yoiu dont have the time or energy or inclination to do the full Routeburn track, the 3 hour return trek from the Divide (Milford end) to key Summit is well worthwhile - stunning scenery.

Nice multiday track which is doable in 2 days but I would do it in 3 (as normal) next time. It is not that difficult but to have more time would be good in order to enjoy the views, the nature and mountains. Anyway, views are amazing and track is well marked. Key summit is definitely worth visit.

We took a 4 hour day hike from Glenorchy...the ferns, the moss, the swing bridge, the rock filled beach and crystal clear river, the waterfalls...a perfect hike near Queenstown, after a spectacular drive from Queenstown to Glenorchy that is perfect for every skill level. You do not have to do a multi day hike to enjoy the Routeburn. Also, a... More

My experience with the Routeburn Track is limited to a return hike to/from Key Summit, which is well worthwhile if you only have time for a day walk. It's easily something you can do in a morning or afternoon. In the parking area at the start of the walk there's only very basic toilet facilities - but let's be honest,... More

We only walked from Milford Road to Key Summit. It took us 2 hours up and down (running the whole way down though). It was probably my favourite walk - the views are incredible. I bet walking the whole track is amazing.

The whole track is not that difficult. What made it harder for me was the backpack we had to carry with all our food, clothes and sleeping things. After 3 hours walk, I could really feel the weight. The huts were good but bring earplugs and something to cover your eyes: there are no curtains. The part between Harris sadle... More
