Routebourn is a stunningly beautiful experience. The environments through which you pass vary from rainforest to mountain passes. The sites, sounds and smells leave you energised and optimistic. The sheer healthy nature of the walk is rewarding in itself. The whole experience is breathtaking and eternally memorable.

I did a day's walk on the Routeburn track from The Divide end - walked up to Key Summit, then down to Howden Hut, and then a bit further up the track towards MacKenzie Hut as I had an extra 1-2 hours to kill. Thoroughly enjoyed this track, especially at this time of year in fact. Only bumped into 2... More

I've done the Routeburn twice - the expensive 'supported' way (Ultimate Hikes) and the unsupported DoC way. You have to carry your pack either way, but on UH you won't carry food (except that day's lunch) or bedding. The rest of your stuff will fit in a 60l pack and will still feel heavy if you're not so young or... More

Every step of the way on Routeburn track is just amazing. You start out on the eastern end near Glenorchy and look up at the spectacular Southern Alps and think to yourself, "how on earth is the track going to get across that mountain range?". But it does and in such a beautiful interesting way. This is a must do... More

We did the Routeburn over the Easter holidays so it was pretty jam packed at Lake Mackenzie Hut, though the Routeburn Falls hut was quiet. Both huts were very nice and well catered for with lovely hut wardens too. A crazy mix of weather which was cool, though the $10 waterproof pants from Bunnings had a bit of a tough... More

My wife and I walked the RB track in November. Great group. Well catered for in tremendous chalets. A great experience to follow the Milford track.

My wife and I hiked the track from the Routeburn Shelter to the Divide in 3 days, 2 nights. We stayed in the Routeburn Falls Hut the first night. The hike to it was fairly short and not too difficult (though level of incline does increase when you reach the Routeburn Flats camp area). The combination of open meadows at... More

8 of us (yea, we were a large group) did the track over 3D2N starting from the shelter and ending at the Divide. I am firstly very impressed with the DOC facilities. I have roughed it in SE Asia, so I was extremely surprised and happy to see that the toilets at the huts were stocked with toilet paper and... More

Did the track over 2 days. Starting from The Divide to Lake Mackenzie Hut for day 1. And finishing the rest of the track on day 2. Took the tracknet shuttle to the starting point. Started off on a wet day so the scenery wasn't that great. The highlight however is between Lake Mackenzie Hut to Routeburn Falls Hut. Conical... More

When you are organising a group of trampers in such an idilic place in New Zealand and have to travel a long way to get there is was pleasing to find a company such as Easyhike to collect our car at one end and have it waiting for us at the other. The process is so easy and secure and... More
