Vistas perfect but you need to realise that access is via large vessel and it is in NEW ZEALAND which is a three plus hour flight from Australia.

We chose the Doubtful Sound tour as it promised 3 hours of cruising the sound (while the Milford Sound tour is a bit shorter). Plus you get a dash across lake Manapouri and a guided bus tour across the Wilmot Pass. We had the most unbelievable weather - crystal clear sky and calm waters, meaning the boat went right out... Extensive maritime exploration in this Wilderness Wonderland is breathtaking in its moodiness, silence, pristine representation of Aotearoa as it was when Capt Cook sailed past 1770 and the French explorers rowd ashore in awe and wonder. As a National Park, its integrity is assured. You too can cast your mind back as to how the first Maori and sailors viewed... More

Doubtful Sound. Truth is, it was our second priority. Blame it on marketing and promotions -- reason why any typical tourist like me would head first to Milford Sound. We were diverted to Doubtful Sound due to threat of avalanche going to Milford. As luck would turn out, Doubtful Sound was an experience to behold. There were two boat trips... More

The day trip from Queenstown to Doubtful Sound is tiring but definitely worth it. I've never seen anything like it before. The scenery is breathtaking.

Everything about Fiordland is amazing and this sound offers a lot more than Milford - i.e. the journey to it is an experience. It has more wild life. We went with Real Journey's and they offer a great experience

The trip alone across Manapouri is fantastic, then the power station is something else - quite a feat of engineering. And then the Sound - if only I could come here every day.
