Many people tour in Milford sound and because of 40 knot winds that weekend we chose Doubtful sound as it's a little more sheltered. There was a lot of rain too and the first day we'd had to turn our Kyaks around and head back to where we'd put in. We stayed in a hostel that evening and I have... More

Milford is much more commercial but doubtful is less with only some ships taking you around. This was the best time and one of the highlights to my trip to New Zealand I was the whole time just admiring the nature all aroun. The freshwater collected over the sea with the moss makes the water dark but due to this... More

Like many tourists to New Zealand, I was torn between Doubtful and Milford Sounds. We would only have time to do one and we opted for Doubtful, mostly because we could do the overnight Fiordland Expeditions cruise. In hindsight, this was absolutely the right decision for us, and we couldn't be happier with our experience both visiting the sound and... More

Our overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound with Fiordland Expeditions was the absolute highlight of our trip! I have to say, I was nervous how it was going to turn out since it was pouring rain but that made it even better! The waterfalls were ripping and since it was an overnight cruise we lucked out with some great weather that... More

We did an overnight cruise via Fiordland Expeditions. Absolutely in the top three of things we did while in NZ. HUGE compared to Milford Sound. If I had to choose do Doubtful Sound. Overnight was essential. Also, don't be afraid to go if it rains. I thought it was going to be awful...BUT it was AMAZING! Waterfalls everywhere!

Spectacular scenery. A day cruise is a lovely way to visit this area of untouched beauty. Travel across lake Manuapuri and the mountain down to Doubtful Sound is really great. The photo opportunities are amazing.

It was freezing cold but totally worth it for the amazing views. We enjoyed the coach ride over the pass.

Brilliant trip to do just like Milford Sound. Boat ride and scenery is amazing and very memorable, simply a magic part of the world and should be on everyone's to do list. Good thing about this trip is a break in the tour to see the underground power station and the engineering feat to do it, if you get the... More

Toured with Real Journeys. They were very experienced and organised. Had perfect weather and saw Fur Seals and Bottlenose Dolphins.

It is such a beautiful place and the tour is set up really well. It was raining cats and dogs the day we went which meant lots of great waterfalls but you couldn't see very far.
