The initial walk is a bit boring, but the end is nice, and the views from luxmore peak gorgeous. if you don't suffer from claustrophobia enjoy the cave--be prepared and go in deep; it's fun. (Be prepared to get dirty when crawling and be sure to have lights.) Even if you aren't an enthusiast go in until you see the... More

We did a day hike in and out and it was great. There is stunning fauna, and a few open areas with gorgeous mountain and water views. A bit of up and down on the trail, but overall quite easy and well maintained.

Interesting reading other reviews of this track. You might get the impression the walk is quite easy. WRONG. My husband and I recently completed the walk, took the counter-clockwise route which seems to be what most people do. We are both pretty fit and thoroughly enjoyed the track - but in no way found it easy. First day we walked... More

The conditions on the track can change quickly. We started on a warm, sunny day and ended up walking through wind driven snow. can be completed comfortably in 3 days. Spectacular scenery. A little more challenging than most great walks.

We went counter-clockwise from Te Anau (near the golf course, crossing the dam) to almost the Luxmore Hut. The changes in flora with the altitude were interesting. After breaking out of the tree line the views were great. We had a nice picnic on an exposed ridge before heading back: about 6 hours round trip (walking fairly quickly). There is... More

We did as a two independent day walks one end from rainbow reach, and the other from the control gates north (anticlockwise) The first was prettier than the second. They're both mostly sheltered but generally you have a bit more ups and downs from rainbow reach clockwise and more changes in vegetation.

We only had time to do a one-day hike on the Kepler Track. We did the Shallow Bay section starting at Rainbow Reach and loved it. It's an easy hike and really lovely - very lush and green, a great way to experience a bit of Fijordland. Wish we could have done more.

Do this walk the REVERSE of what is recommended and do it in 3 days not 4/5 unless you love SANDFLIES. Route is Moturau Hut ( bypass ) and overnight Iris Burn. Sandflies along the path OK WHY ? because their all at the huts, demons from hell all partying en masse as each day more trampers turn up so... More

I did this in mid January 2014 - starting at the control gates , finishing at Rainbow reach. ( tip : leave your car at the finish ..and get a local shuttle to the start, your car will then be waiting for you regardless what time u finish, no need to hit a particular time for a transfer bus back... Me and a friend decided to do a day hike walking for approximately 7 hours to rainbow reach passing a wildlife centre seeing native NZ birds, which until now I hadn't seen properly! The gaps in the trees showed fantastic views of the Fiordland national park. It was a nice, easy trail and I wish I could have spent a... More
