We took the Red Boat's Discover More Cruise with included a BBQ buffet lunch. Food was good and the staff was very friendly. They encourage us to go outside on the deck in order to enjoy the cruise and see the sights better. At one point, they provided us with raincoat and encourage us to stand at the front deck,... more

We were picked up at our backpacker at 6:30am and jumped into a small bus with four other people. One and a half hours later, following a drive through what seemed like the Jasper Parkway (Alberta Rockies, Canada), we were on the shores of a very foggy Milford Sound. Very foggy. We could barely see 100 meters in front of... more

Really enjoyed the kayaking experience in Milford Sound. Great way to see the waterfalls up close. We went on our tour in May (and it was cold), and didn't have any trouble with the sandflies. Went on the "Winter Sunriser Classic" tour with Roscos Kayaks. Booked online, as we were told the tours can fill up. Picked up from the... more

Returned from NZ last week. I thought Milford Sound was definately more amazing from the air. It is worth every cent of the cost and you will be really missing out if you do not fly at least one way. I flew both ways with Air Wakatipu over snow capped mountains (NZ has just had the highest snowfall in May... more

We pre booked with CruizeMilford and were picked up from our Ter Anau hotel by an EcoTours mini coach driven by tour guide Simon. We had rain all day and without the interesting background from a knowledgeable guide the day could have been a disaster. The road to Milford Sound is not a difficult road and with a reasonable map... more

Unfortunately the day we went to Milford Sound the weather wasn't good. We stayed in Te Anau and drove down to Milford Sound early to get on one of the earlier boat trips. This meant that we could take our time on the way home. It is a beautiful place and apparently it's better to go when it's raining as... more

If you want a day trip to Milford Sound from Queenstown we recommend the BBQ Bus. Nick and Mayumi will pick up from your accommodation, drive you to Milford Sound with a very informative commentary with stops along the way. They also cook an excellent BBQ lunch and on arrival at the Milford Sound cruise boat they arrange the tickets... more

I was told this was the most amazing thing to see and do in New Zealand. It was very nice, but it wasnt amazing. And this was at the beginning of my trip when mountains and lakes where still spectacular. The bus ride was the best part. The first glimpses of the mountains, the rainforests, keas, and the commentary from... more

There are several different ways to see Milford Sound -- one can take these luxury cruises and they bring you into the fjord -- and they seemed really nice, but expensive. My friends and I drove to Milford Sound - stayed at the local lodge (which is communal showers, no electricity at night, no tv kinda place) -- and did... more
