Having experienced a 'trip of a lifetime' recently by driving throughout the magnificent South Island we topped our trip with a visit to the Fiordland Cinema to watch the half hour film of what the area has to offer (by air) and were not disappointed. We bought the DVD so we could see it again, it was so good. Words... More

We visited the cinema before going to Milford sound. This allowed us to understand that we are not even scratching the surface of what is being offered throughout the area. The photography and camera work certainly allows you to be awed by the spectacular views you are afforded whilst watching the film. An excellent way to understand the region in... More

On our fourth trip to Te Anau we finally made it to this cinema to see the scenic half-hour film of the Fiordland area. It's certainly worth a look and gives a series of panoramic views over the wilderness in different seasons, with a stirring soundtrack. Not expensive and a budget alternative to flying in a helicopter yourself! Especially if... More

Fabulous little cinema in the heart of town. Fun experience to grab a drink and a gourmet snack at the attached Black Dog bar and take it in to watch a film. We caught a fab short film on Fiordlands and southern island. It was a gorgeous film.

Great movie to see as an introduction into Fjordland, would have been better in 3D but you can't have everything :)

I had the great pleasure of viewing The Hobbit at this cinema and loved the big comfy seats, the in cinema service and fantastic considerate customer service. They have an interval which I loved as we used to have them many years ago in Adelaide but they had since stopped. It was great during the interval to go for a... More

Thanks so much for your review Hallett505! I hope your wife is feeling better... I do remember! We're glad you got to see the Hobbit with us, it is quite special to see a movie like this here in it's birthplace. The same goes for Ata Whenua - it was very much a special local project and we're so happy... More

Well worth a visit and only 20 dollars per head to see a spectacular movie with music via a surround sound system. If you can't do a helicopter ride this is the next best thing.

Thanks for your review Hassendeanbandb, "the next best thing to helicopter flight" is definitely an appropriate description of our movie! Just a little note for future readers... our admission price is $10 per adult. Glad you liked it! More

The short, 30-minute video of beautiful Fiordland National Park scenery should be a must-do for any who visit Te Anau. A fantastic film. The Cinema is also great to just go catch a regular movie flick, if you feel inclined. The small little theater features large, plush, comfortable seating, a full drink menu and food service, too!
