We had terrible weather while staying, but as long as you don't mind the cold, there are still lots to do, indoors or outdoors. Also nice shops, lovely friendly people, ready to assist you when you need advice. We stayed for 4 days & we're sad to leave

We had a wonderful time hiking around this park weaving close to the water and then inland again. This incline is mild and views are 360. Our whole family enjoyed it.

A great place to locate if you are wanting to do the Milford or Doubtful Sound tours. Also a terrific launching pad for many of the great walks in the Fiordland National Park.

During my visit to New Zealand, I saw my fair share of lakes. But Lake Te Anau was pretty special compared to some I have seen. The gorgeous backdrop of the mountains adds such contrast to the calm waters of the lake, and the quiet town of Te Anau. Beautiful sunset, and beautiful night sky.

We were told Milford Sound was at its best in a downpour. We had very heavy rain which created some wonderful waterfalls but very few photos came out. Our trip included the underwater observatory which was not very interesting

Early in the day we went on a "cruise" of Milford Sound, which I was disappointed in. In the afternoon we decided to go on a "cruise" on Lake Te Anau to the glowworm cave. The lake was just gorgeous. The water was smooth, and the reflections were amazing. We got a lot of good pictures.

The lake is really beautiful on the edge of a small town with all the facilities you would need for your stay. By asking the locals you will find really amazing adventures close to the centre of town where you can get amazing views all round or places to have heaps of fun with the kids, Ivon wilson park has... Lake Te Anau is in the south-western corner of the South Island of New Zealand. Its name was originally Te Ana-au, Maori for 'The cave of swirling water'. The lake covers an area of 344 km², making it the second-largest lake by surface area in New Zealand (after Lake Taupo) and the largest in the South Island. Lake Te Anau... More

As we were visiting Milford Sound we set up our base at TeAnau. There is plenty of private accommodation to rent on a nightly or more arrangement. Te Anua we found an ideal base for Queenstown, Milford Sound, Arrowtown and Manapouri (boat trips for Doubtful Sounds). The lake is beautiful and peaceful. Great for walks. There are plenty of shops,... More
