Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the original riversurfing company! Forget about any white water activity you`ve ever seen. This is Serious Fun Riversurfing. The most exciting, exhilarating and interactive water activity on the planet. Each trip begins in a calm section of the river; the guides give you a full safety briefing and teach you the basics in riversurfing before you set off on your white water adventure. We have the world’s most experienced and qualified guides and 100% safety record since 1989. Where did it all begin? Jon Imhof, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown to go snowboarding and he liked Queenstown so much that he decided to stay for summer. Missing the waves of the ocean, he looked for an alternative and came up with the crazy idea to follow the rafters down the Shotover River and surf waves on his body board. Although the rapids were great, he found it was too shallow and decided to go down the Kawarau River instead, and the sport of riversurfing was born.In 1989, with riversurfing in high demand, Jon established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, Jon started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995 and some of the African guides took the sport up to the White Nile in Uganda, and to this day, these are the only three places in the world you can go riversurfing!

Really fun trip! Great friendly, safe guides. Make sure you have a good breakfast, this trip takes a lot of energy, it's very physical! If you're not a confident swimmer, maybe stay clear of this activity. But if you are a good swimmer, get into it!

My husband and I chose to do this "extreme" sport while in Queenstown because it appealed to our love of white water and swimming. The trip was overall enjoyable, my husband enjoyed it a lot more than I did, though. I often felt overwhelmed with instructions when we were out on the water, and it was often difficult to follow... I am a kayaker and thought riverboarding was easy but I found out that it is both fun and challenging to "swim" a river. Our trip was on the pretty Roaring Meg section and our guides Neil and especially Dallas Kane were great, keeping us safe and making it fun.

Great trip! Scenic drive through the mountains first, where you end up at station to try out your gear. The river is really strong, but with guidance from the professional and kind staff you will find your way. Especially during the second trip you know how to find your way. The rapids are awesome and a must do in Queenstown!

We had a great day out with the Serious Fun guys on the river. It was raining and generally pretty yucky outside so being in the river was the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Dallas led the group and kept us all laughing throughout the day. This is definitely a good activity for those that have a good level... More

A whole bunch of fun and adrenalin - went with nephews 15-13-12 and we all loved it - shattered afterwards and slept like a baby

I was a little apprehensive about doing this because of my lack of confidence going under water but I'm so glad I suppressed my fears! The instructors are incredible and guide you through the full stretch of the rapids. If you do end up drifting, they'll be right there giving you instructions to get on course or pulling you back... Awesome activity which I completed with my wife. Neil and Pavel were great guides and Neil was especially helpful to my wife who struggled in parts. It is hard at times but it is definitely worth the effort

Surfing down the river on a body board allows you to experience rapids from a unique angle, right at the surface. There are lots of waves and a few good rapids to bounce through. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it totally blind and with only one leg, but thanks to my personal guide Lewis I was not... More

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Admittedly I am quite used to being on a bodyboard but in the ocean, not on a fast flowing river. I also have issues wearing the thick wettie, flippers, lifejacket and helmet but safety is paramount so you wear them. And fair enough too, the water is damn cold. The guys really look after you,...
