Owner description: Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the original riversurfing company! Forget about any white water activity you`ve ever seen. This is Serious Fun Riversurfing. The most exciting, exhilarating and interactive water activity on the planet. Each trip begins in a calm section of the river; the guides give you a full safety briefing and teach you the basics in riversurfing before you set off on your white water adventure. We have the world’s most experienced and qualified guides and 100% safety record since 1989. Where did it all begin? Jon Imhof, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown to go snowboarding and he liked Queenstown so much that he decided to stay for summer. Missing the waves of the ocean, he looked for an alternative and came up with the crazy idea to follow the rafters down the Shotover River and surf waves on his body board. Although the rapids were great, he found it was too shallow and decided to go down the Kawarau River instead, and the sport of riversurfing was born.In 1989, with riversurfing in high demand, Jon established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, Jon started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995 and some of the African guides took the sport up to the White Nile in Uganda, and to this day, these are the only three places in the world you can go riversurfing!

Had a fantastic time on this trip, really fun activity and a good challenge. The guides were excellent, good fun but very professional and helpful and had just the right amount of time in the water. Overall a fantastic way to spend a few hours and amazing scenery aswell!

Great guides. Lots of instruction. The river was fun but really cold. Locals recommended this company and I am glad we chose them.

The whole thing took about 5 hours and we were in the water for a good amount of time (maybe 1hr 30, 2 hrs?). River surfing is a LOT harder than I expected it to be but as it's quite an unusual thing most people are at the same level and the staff are really handy and I never worried... More

Riversurfing was a pretty good time. My husband and I have rafted many times and even did SUP on rapids but this was our first time Riversurfing. The jump in was a bit brisk. It was fun but exhausting to kick down the Rapids. I also got a lot of cold water to the face during the two big rapids.... More

If you want views of Kawarau river mixed with awesome guides and a little bit of a workout, this activity will knock your socks off. Such a great way to spend a sunny day and everyone had such a smile on their face whilst they were cruising down. Recommend to anyone and everyone :)

I have done a lot of Watersports back home in Scotland and have rafted in a few countries around the world, but this was something else! Being IN a big volume river rather than on it sure adds a new dimension! I know they do easier runs for folks that don't want the full on adrenaline experience but the trip... More

Luckily squeezed this in on my first day in QT. The instructors who took us out (Rose, Dan and Heidi) were excellent and really entertaining throughout the experience. The water is so clean you could literally drink it (and we did). Such a fun morning, be brave on the second run and tackle the bigger rapids!
