Description: Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the...
Experience the thrill of body boarding down the Kawarau River with the original riversurfing company! Forget about any white water activity you`ve ever seen. This is Serious Fun Riversurfing. The most exciting, exhilarating and interactive water activity on the planet. Each trip begins in a calm section of the river; the guides give you a full safety briefing and teach you the basics in riversurfing before you set off on your white water adventure. We have the world’s most experienced and qualified guides and 100% safety record since 1989. Where did it all begin? Jon Imhof, a surfer from Hawaii, came to Queenstown to go snowboarding and he liked Queenstown so much that he decided to stay for summer. Missing the waves of the ocean, he looked for an alternative and came up with the crazy idea to follow the rafters down the Shotover River and surf waves on his body board. Although the rapids were great, he found it was too shallow and decided to go down the Kawarau River instead, and the sport of riversurfing was born.In 1989, with riversurfing in high demand, Jon established Serious Fun Riversurfing, the original riversurfing company. A few years later, after looking for other suitable locations around the world, Jon started a sister company on the Zambezi in 1995 and some of the African guides took the sport up to the White Nile in Uganda, and to this day, these are the only three places in the world you can go riversurfing!

What a fun experience! Plenty of adrenaline to satisfy the adventurism inside of you. The guides were great to work with and helped me navigate the rapids safely. After a short drive from QT, they provided an introduction at a calm spot in the river where we got comfortable with the techniques and terminology used in navigating the river. Once... More

We had a go at riversurfing on the Kawarau River. It included 9km of sledging. The riversurfing was quite a challenge but I got to do it for a little bit with the help of our great guides: Dan, Adam, Joel and Pavel. This is definitely something different and fun to do!

i won't lie, I see myself as a good swimmer but this really test my metal. In the store they claim a 100% safety record which didn't sound too impressive until i got on the river. Gives you a whole new respect for water. Don't worry if your not that strong as the guides take you out and if need... More

I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into with Serious Fun but man what an adrenaline rush! From hitting the first 60 meters of rapids right away right up to the end with 800m of the epic Chinese Dog Leg, river surfing did not disappoint. The guides were fantastic. Niall explained everything we were going to encounter along the... More

What I expected - Smooth, easy going surfing action. What I got - A whole body workout, lots of water in my face and one of the best adventures ever. In beautiful Queenstown at Kawarau River (Lord of the Rings - scenery) I experienced a wonderful wet and adventurous day. Through wild water rapids and a long smooth river streams... More

We were driven down to the river point, suited & booted before being shown the basics of the board & how to use it. The guides were knowledgeable & great fun, & kept an eye on anybody who didn't feel so confident. We stopped several times down the river (stunning!) to be told what lay ahead & how to tackle... Fun activity to do in Queenstown but not cheap. They drive you to a spot on the river where you get geared up with wetsuits and boogie boards. They give you a safety briefing and give you an explanation on what to do, what to expect etc. You basically float down the river though the rapids which is quite fun... More

I went river surfing on Tuesday and it was an amazing experience. The instructors, Dan, Bjorn and Joel, were so great and made the experience both fun and safe. I can't wait to come back and do Chinese Dog Leg. Thanks :)
