We stopped here on the chance they might be open but they were not. According to their web site, they will be closed for all of 2013 and 2014. To bad because it sounded like fun.

On 29 April, we stopped at Kingston, a very small town on the bottom of Lake Wakatipu. We were lucky enough to catch the last Kingston Flyer steamtrain trip for the season. We travelled 1st class in our own stateroom with leather seats and a table and at their lovely Station cafe we bought our own lunch to eat along... More

Very disappointed with the customer service of this attraction. We booked a trip on the flyer back on 10 December 2012 for a trip on the 27th December. Only after processing our booking we were informed that this service is not operating until February 2013. We have contacted this company on several occasions to get a refund as we were... More

We bought the deluxe tickets on the train for my sons birthday and we had so much fun!! We got a little cabin to ourselves with beautiful padded seats. a platter of yummy local foods and a bottle of wine. Before we left we got something to eat the the station in Kingston and that food was fabulous too. The... More

We splurged on a bird cage carriage for the two of us with platter and wine. I don't drink wine but my husband said it was like drinking vinegar. The platter was great - variety + and very yummy!. The trip itself is worth doing if only to keep a slice of history in operation. The scenery was pretty, the... More

Our trip sealed the wait of five years to come back to Queenstown area to visit with my husband and my mum ( making her first visit to New Zealand and the South Island.) The Kingston Flyer was one of the best trips we took and was a marvelous experience for all three of us. It is a 'must do'... More

If you love trains then this is the trip for you. About 30 mins out of Queenstown the train leaves from Kingston funnily enough. 1/2 hour trip, 1/2 hour there and 1/2 hour back. So many people lining the road to take photos. A must do.

Amazingly well-maintained despite the age of the train. We see a lot of old couples doing this I guess this is somewhat nostalgic. The first time we went the train wasn't running (perhaps fire hazard?) but they ran the locomotive back and forth a few times for tourists to take pictures which is very nice. Went back again on the... More

The return trip from Kingston to Fairlight on the 100 yr old Kingston Flyer is a real treat. The scenary along the way and the sound of steam makes this one of the best steam hauled trips you can make if you are a steam train lover. It starts at Kingston, about a one hour drive from Queenstown in New... More

The drive from Queenstown takes about 40 minutes but then you can relax and enjoy a round trip on this old steam train for a couple of hours. It has an interesting history which you can uncover at Kingston station whist enjoying a coffee in the cafe before leaving. We went into the guards van for the first leg and... More
