Challenge Rafting operates exciting half-day trips on the Shotover and Kawarau Rivers in Queenstown. The Kawarau River is suited to first time rafters or those wanting a taste of rafting and is accessed by vehicle. The Shotover River is accessed by vehicle through the historic Skippers Canyon forged out by goldminers during the big Gold Rush. This road is inaccessible in winter and for this reason Heli-rafting is offered in winter on the Shotover River.

This is an awesome trip!! Definitely one of the top 3 things I have done in Queenstown! If you have never rafted before do not worry, they show you exactly what to do & help you along the way. We did it in Winter expecting it to be be freezing but they provided us with plenty of clothing to keep... More

We chose to do the Heli-Rafting in Queenstown. It cost us around £150 each for about 4 hours. The coach transfer is included up to the helicopter point. The helicopter ride was an incredible experience and the pilot showed us some excellent views then flew through the valley above the canyon we'd be rafting down! The rafting guides down on... More

This trip is really fun and the helicopter ride was stunning. Checked in by the lovely Emily then we made our way out to the start of the trip. The raft guides were all very funny and kept everyone well informed of what to do and any safety advice. The trip is great value to have a helicopter ride and... More

Of course, white water rafting is dependant on a number of things as to how tame/extreme it is - if it's when there's lots of snow melt or after a heavy rain, the rapids will be more challenging. We did it in summer time after a week without rain so it seemed pretty tame to me as a first time... More

Hi Sue, Thank you for taking the time to review your trip with us. I am glad you enjoyed your trip and yes the 45 minute drive through Skippers Canyon is an adventure on its own. The river levels fluctuate quite a lot in the summer months and due to the lack of rainfall this year meant some days the... More

Rafted with my friend and boyfriend, my friend had never rafted before and I was so excited for her to enjoy it! The river was the lowest it has been for a long time resulting in the grades being lower, so they used smaller rafts due to this. I was a little disappointed with the rapids as there was a... More

Hi Suki, Thank you for taking the time to review your trip. We are glad you had a good afternoon out overall. You sound quite adventurous! The river levels fluctuate often and at higher water Shotover River Rafting can be a very different trip, perhaps more suited to experienced rafters such as yourself. If you are ever in Queenstown again... More

Did this as part of the Shotover Trio. I've wanted to white water raft since watching "The River Wild". I don't like water so this was a huge challenge for me. The staff were great at getting us kitted out. Warning...the booties are wet inside...yuck! The communal changing facilities are a little cramped with larger trips (I think our trip... More

Good fun on the rafting trip, rapids are good fun and getting to float in the water as an option during some parts is fun too. The end is the best, a long tunnel then one very fun rapid! Great guides, very capable and friendly, also pretty funny.

professional, organised from the get-go, and had a charming, professional raft guide in Derek. Actually we loved the camaraderie amongst the whole team. Bit of a white knuckled ride through the Skippers Canyon (the road not the driver), but if you dont mind heights, gravel roads, and no barrier it was spectacular. after plenty of prep, the rafting (we had... We booked the Shotover trip. We loved the experience right from the start while driving in Skippers Canyon (what an amazing place!) and how the staff in the van entertained us by telling stories and jokes. Big thumbs up to the staff as they are a bunch of very cool and friendly young folks but also very professional and concerned... More
