We were extremely satisfied with our day out on the Otago peninsula with Elm Wildlife Tours. We were picked up from our accommodation and on the way out to the peninsula we got an information-sheet about the animals we could encounter as well as the guide telling us about the history of Dunedin and pointing out birds and interesting locations.... Four of us and a guide - Fabulous! Donna (guide) picked us up in Portobello and brought us to some tidal pools for bird watching. She explained a bit about the types we saw. Next we headed to the Albatross Centre to se if any birds were flying. Unfortunately not, but a fishing boat was feeding some scraps so about... More

Really a great tour in the sense of finding and viewing a variety of wildlife, inlcuding seeing sea lions and penguins up close in what apppeared to be a restricted-access area on a remote beach. Convenient pickup from our hotel. A pleasant, invigorating walk to get to the animal areas. Only gripe, relatively minor: our guide seemed a bit short... More

There were parts of this tour that were absolutely amazing. There were also other parts which for me were a bit pointless. The guide was obviously a bird lover and would continually stop on the side of the road to point out different types of ducks when to me, they all looked the same from 100m away. Still, that wasn’t... More

Definitely one of the highlight of my stay in Dunedin! Took up the $95 Peninsula Encounter Standard Tour and its really well worth it! Pickup and dropoff can be arranged from the doorsteps of your hotels/stays and they will bring you to the Royal Albatross Centre first. We were unlucky to not spot any Albatross flying around the area due... More

This was an inspiring tour. Although not typically the type of tour we take, we thought seeing some of the local animals would be great. It was a great experience. Seals, seal lions (male and female!), yellow-eyed penguins, albatross,....I'm sure I took over 800 pictures this day just to capture everything seen and experienced. The tour guide - Tony -... More

Having read the reviews I had my expectations up and was not disappointed. Amazing! -wear good shoes, some considerable hills to walk to beach -wear layers, we went on a windy day but it was chilly and you're outside for 2 hours The tour starts with personalized pickups before we went to the albatross centre. We did not purchase this... More

We met our terrific guide, Donah, right at the end of the pier along with the six other folks on our tour. She had a very comfortable mini-van and off we went to the Royal Albatross Centre for a look at some truly amazing and rare birds. Two of our tour had chosen the extra cost of going up to... More

We spent the day with Elm Wildlife Tours on a private excursion while visiting the area as part of a cruise. The day was absolutely the highlight of our entire trip to New Zealand and Australia. Hooker's Sea Lions, Fur Seals, Penguins and a lot of other birds all made an appearance and I can't believe we were able to... More

We went on this tour in the first week of March 2014 in the middle a rain and wind storm that resulted in significant flooding further north in Christchurch. The wind was a blessing and a curse; it made for ideal albatross flying weather so we saw plenty of them in flight, even though we did not pay the extra... More
