A good trip when its raining. Good views and good commentary. I personally would of liked to have travelled back down another line. The hard work put into a train track is amazing and dedication.

There and back again through spectacular scenery, with photo stops where you can get off the train. The on board commentary was good, views from our seats good, with a bonus of viewing platforms at the end of carriages for window free photographs. We had heard negative reports of the trip, but were pleasantly surprised and all of us enjoyed... More

An interesting look at the inland, and some impressive engineering built under difficult circumstances.

This is a must do on a visit to Dunedin. It will appeal to all ages. Beginning with Dunedin Station is treat enough but the dramatic train ride will impress. It is difficult to comprehend what the building of this line must have entailed - the tunnels and gorges seem impenetrable. Standing outside at the end of the carriages will... More

Onboard staff generally helpful & friendly, sometimes informative. Views from carriage a bit restricted, but from platforms very good.

Excellent way to see a new part of the country in ease and comfort. Retraced the steps of my great uncle, as he left the Sutton area and went off to the First World War to die at Gallipoli. I placed poppies at the Cenotaph at Middlemarch

Our age group was 56 to 67 we were travelling in a group of 4. One member of our group has mobility problems. This proved to be an easy activity that we could all share. The train was comfortable and clean. The staff friendly. The two stops allowed us to purchase some trinkets and give us a taste for some... More

I live in Dunedin and enjoy this trip so much, I have done the gorge trip several times and loved the trip to Palmerston on the Seasider. I am a train lover, and really enjoy the commentary that is given on the trip. The scenery is very nice and each trip I see something new. Staff are available to ask... More

One of the great train rides still possible in a world obsessed with speed , ie. getting from one place to another as fast and as cheap as possible...! On the Taieri Gorge Railway to Middlemarch excursion the process of getting there is really more important than the destination. Not that Middlemarch isn't worthwhile, because it definitely is, and we... More
