On a spectacular September afternoon we pulled out of the majestic Dunedin Railway station bound for the Taieri Gorge. The train journey was very relaxing and the commentary informative without being too intrusive for the travellers. The train staff were very friendly and they certainly add to the overall experience. The return trip gave an added incentive to enjoy the... More

Awesome way to see some of the most beautiful scenery of Dunedin. The trip is quite long but totally worth it and the guy telling you about the history of the area etc is very entertaining so you don't get bored. Being able to ride between the carriages is great fun and all the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and... More

We went on this trip with our 7 and 14 year old children. To sum up we all found it an exciting trip for the first half of the journey, relaxing the way back. It was a pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Would not do a repeat as found it a little overpriced and we were also overcharged.

Great 4 hour trip. The scenery, train & history lesson kept us involved the whole time. You are able to ride between the carriages which is great for photography.

Just a fantastic train trip. The rugged scenery is fantastic - the whole way. The train is comfortable and affords great views from the windows. The bridges are great to see - marvellous engineering. When you get to the end of the trip ( at the "top") the handicrafts and souvenirs offered to buy are really lovely to purchase, as... More

Wasn't my cup of tea but can see why others enjoy it. 4 hours of nature at its best and history commentary.

Journey time is total of four and half hours, with commentary most of the way on the outbound journey, good easy to listen to gentleman with lots of interesting facts. Railway carriages are comfortable and warm, with buffet car providing snacks. Gradually making way from Dunedin to Pukerangi, with a couple of short stops to stretch legs and take some... More
