A really good rail trip through some amazing scenery. Highly recommended trip. It only takes half a day. The Seasider trip, although a completely different trip up the rugged Otago coast, is also really interesting and worth going on if you have the time or opportunity.

Traveled by train to Middlemarch then biked the cycle trail through to Clyde. The train trip up was fantastic.

A great way to see some stunning New Zealand scenery.....a shame that it was a wet day and the darkness descended alittle eariler than it would have had it been a clear bright sunny day. Great train conductor who had lots of dry humour and managed to sell me a train whistle for my grandson, which by the way he... More

We traveled the in an older car & as it was not full you were able to move around at your leisure. Onboard is a Buffet Car which serves pies/sandwiches & Dunedins Cheese Rolls. An informative commentary was broadcast through the carriages pointing out items of interest & some historical facts on the Railway. A nice way to fill in... More

We did a shore excursion on the Taieri Gorge Railway and thoroughly enjoyed it. The heritage rolling stock is very comfortable and the gorge scenery is rugged and spectacular. As this was chartered by the cruise-line a lunchbox was included, along with free refreshments, but there’s other choices if you’re doing this independently. Excellent commentary, friendly and attentive staff and... More

Terrific scenic trip and amazing viaducts that the train travels over. You miss this scenery if you go by road. Vertigo inducing cliffs as the train meanders it's way through the gorge. Highly recommended!

.We decided to do the Seaside ride to Palmerston and we were not disappointed in anything the rail-car was comfortable and the gentlemen who talked had a sense of humour along with a wealth of knowledge. Fantastic customer service. We had lunch at Palmerston and a brief look at the shops before the return trip. Highly recommended

We enjoyed our trip on the railway. The scenery was spectacular and the commentary was entertaining. We had breakfast on the train which was tasty. Some fantastic photo opportunities too.

The scenery was gorgeous once the train entered into the Taieri Gorge. The trip became a bit monotonous after a while, though, with more of the same, especially since the train travels out from Dunedin and back on the same track.

The four hour trip was well worth the price. The tour conductor provided a lot of information along the tour. The scenery was beautiful. I was able to take a number of pictures along the way. We walked across a bridge. Refreshments were available on the train. The restroom was clean. I was able to stand outside the train cabin... More
