Who would expect to see Victorian architecture, beautifully preserved and restored, on a railway station. The history of Dunedin is presented in terms of the rail link and its importance to the industry of the city. The tiled entry hall floor, viewed from the galley above, is beautiful. The stained glass adds to the effect. We also enjoyed the local...

Classic Old Building.... Walking distance from good coffee and shops... cross the road to Ironic for great boutique coffee and food.... visit on Saturday and do the Farmers Market and have a White Bait Pattie ....yum
The train station is a landmark in Dunedin . There is an open air market held on the weekends that sells, fruits, meat, vegetables, cheeses ect and they have performers playing instruments-really quaint and laid back.
its a true icon in NZ such a magnificent building in top condition a must see - go on the seasider train ride on a friday or some saturdays its tops
Nice building with a sporting museum also there which I did not visit. The station itself is a nice stop for a few minutes and a photo stop but is not really a mainline station anymore. only a couple of local tourist services leave from here. However it is a Dunedin icon and should be visited.
The railway station comes out of a bygone era. The Royal Doulton tiles in the foyer and on the staira are unbelievable. I could just imagine the ladies in their long dresses and the men in their top hats waiting in the foyer. The tiles have a very railway motif. The platform is extremely long to cater for the larhe...

A Victorian fantasy, with turrets and towers outside and whimsical mosaics and stained glass in the interior. It is the venue for the annual ID Fashion Show and the railway platform provides the longest catwalk in the Southern Hemisphere. There is a good cafe and it is well worth a visit.
... and the stained glass - very impressive. Placing of the tile was done with painstaking care. The exterior is interesting as well.
