In the 1870's it was farmed by John Cargill, he had a tunnel dug to allow his children to access the beach. The beach itself has stunning sandstone formations, some resident pidgeons, Sea caves and some very old graffiti. « less

Just 3mins from the Dunedin town boundary lies this wonderful walk that takes you down to a tunnel to a beautiful beach. Before you go, learn the history about it. More

An amazing odity, well worth the walk down the track, through the tunnel and onto the beack. Wild and windswept, this one will impress! More

You will require a moderate fitness level as the walk down and up is easy but steep for most of the walk. The steps through the limestone tunnel to the beach are well crafted and lead onto the beach area. Well worth the walk. More

Amazing place - if you're with young kids don't take a buggy as its a bit of a hike back up the hill More

Beautiful walk, a little steep but well worth it. Took our 2 and 4 yr olds and they walked the whole way only about 20 min down 30 up max. Such a beautiful beach, we had perfect weather not a breath of wind. Kids went paddling and ended up with clothes off and swimming! More

The walk right down to the beach is very steep & we did not go all the way. We walkked part of the way & did get to see the impressive rock formations jutting out in the ocean. Very glad that we made sure we got to see it. More

The long climb back up the hill is mitigated by the magnificence of the cliffs and the views of the ocean. I lived here for 20 years as a child and never realised that this wonder existed. More

A tunnel that goes to a beach! The only thing is that it's really just a beach. More

A fairly decent walk from the car park down to the beach. It's fine to take kids, but be prepared to carry them back to the car which can be a long uphill climb. Actual beach was very cool, nice and secluded and heaps of rocks for the wee one to climb on. More
