Second day of my holiday and off we drove to Weller's Rock to meet the Monarch Boat. Only 3 of us on board on this particular day. Really informative tour given by a tour guide who was obviously passionate about his vocation. A sunny windy day, great weather conditions to see Royal Albatross, of which we were lucky to see... I think that this does only happen on some tours but we went on a cruise on April 1st and it was no joke! Nigel the very knowleable skipper saw some white dots on the horizon and said they were dolphins. And surely enough he went out to see them. They did show off their tricks to us. Dusky dolphins... Hi Mindmade 6 out of 5 is good! Thanks! It often surprises locals how wonderfully wild it is so close to our city. You were very lucky to see such a big group of Dusky Dolphins - always exhilarating - and you got a good albatross/petrel show too. If you go out more you'll learn not to be scared as... More

SATURDAY 11 APRIL. 8.30 am departure. WOW, what a great morning activity for our group. Our cruise was organised as part of mini-conference weekend activity for the ladies whilst our partners were back on land in 'meetings' all morning. Im going to be honest I was a teeny bit negative & wouldn't have picked a wildlife cruise as a way... More

Thanks very much Kerrikiwi - so pleased you had such a great time, though I'm not surprised given your fun group! Your advice on taking a beanie is good - we tell people to dress warmly for the sea-breeze and then we top up their warmth with our big coats. Your amazing fish school was likely to be either kahawai... More

This was an amazing trip. Saw albatross and also their chicks waiting to be fed. Binoculars are supplied, which help to see the chicks and also warm coats if you do not have one! The commentary is informative and has a good knowledge base. It was also great to see the fur seals and their babies and of course the... More

We enjoyed the trip very much. We were picked up, on time by Bruce, a nice guy who gave us a bit of a city tour on the way to the boat. Boat trip was good, all staff very helpful and accommodating, jackets and binoculars provided. Even made everyone a tea or coffee. Saw lots of birds, also went to... More

We boarded out boat (forgot the name) at the pier half-way out the Otago Peninsula. The boat provides good binoculars. We went to and then around the hill where the Royal Albatross Center is located. We saw around 20 albatrosses, a half-dozen blue penguins in the water and 3 fur seals on the rocks. We had a great time.

I took a one hour cruise around the Taiaroa heads to photograph the sea birds. I was fortunate to have the expertise of both the captain and the guide to enable the best advantage and advice for my photography. The captain spun the boat about edging close to the cliffs as he saw the albatross approaching as well as being... More

An amazingly beautiful place. The boat trip was well organised. It was a cold day but warm coats were provided. Saw many seals and birds up close. Very knowledgeable commentary.

Loved this wildlife cruise! Saw Royal Albatross as well as three species of lesser albatross, seals, sea lions, yellow eyed penguins and lots of other bird life. Especially enjoyed the informative narrative from the bus driver, penguin tour guide and boat captain. Supplied with big warm jackets on the boat, and a hot drink and bicky. Highly recommended!
