Better when back to full service and the commentary good, let alone the hop on and hop off option, saved quite a deal of walking.

As you probably know, Christchurch was ravaged by terrible earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. The Tramway operates from the Botanic Garden to the CBD area. The tram cars themselves are reminiscent of San Francisco Cable cars or street cars. Very cool. The trip is rather short and the trams don't go much faster than it would take to walk, but... More

We only had a few hours to spend in Christchurch so the tram with its well informed driver was a good way to spend our time. The tramway was damaged in the earthquakes but even on a shortened journey there is a lot to see.

We didn't Think that the Tramway would be up and running due to the quakes so it was a pleasant surprise to find new Regent Street looking beautiful and the tram running. We took a return journey and it was lovely to see the tram driver looking for passengers that he had already given rides to during the day and... More

The Christchurch trams are older models brought inform elsewhere when the system was destroyed during the 2011 quake. It currently runs on a restricted trackwhile the city is being rebuilt. For all that it is a pleasant trip with knowledgeable drivers who give a commentary as you go. We were going to do the combo including the gondola but it... More

I got to experience this with a day pass for the tram and the gondola. Both were absolutely amazing experiences. I love old tram / trolley cars and the history that goes with them. The operators were very knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend this to anyone that visits Christchurch!

Visited Christchurch on a whirlwind driving tour of the south island October 2014, and after the initial shock of experiencing the aftermath of the utter devastation in the downtown area during the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011, I was so happy to see the old tram up and running, driving some new-found energy back into the city. The healing process... More

You can either buy a $10 ticket for the tram only or a "combo" ticket for the tram & some of the other attractions. We bought a tram ticket on the spur of the moment & my daughter only used it for one short ride. However I used it twice. It's hop on hop off which is handy if you... More

Thank you for choosing to visit our trams! We are hoping to re-open our pre-earthquake tram loop as well as the Tramway Restaurant in the next month or two (along with another extension planned for next year), so hope you will be able to visit again in the future once these are re-open. Thank you for posting such lovely photos:... More

We are glad that you enjoyed your tram ride! Our drivers know all sorts of information about the city, so we're happy you had an opportunity to speak to them about the city and the tramway's part in it. Thank you for taking the time to review our attraction! More
